A Call To Measure The Oral Disease Burden In Nursing Homes
Oral health is essential to healthy aging, yet a ¨silent epidemic of oral diseases¨ disproportionately burdens older adults residing in long-term care facilities. Access to dental care in these settings is near-nonexistent. As the nation rapidly ages, this threatens to create a public health crisis. By 2030, one in five adults will be older than age 65, and an estimated 1.9 million—up from 1.3 million in 2015—will require nursing home care.
