Govt issues draft notification to bring iron, steel sectors under CCTS

Jasjeev Gandhiok The Union environment ministry has issued a draft notification to bring the iron and steel sectors under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), assigning greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity reduction targets to over 250 plants to reduce emissions. The draft dated June 26 refers plant-specific GHG emission intensity targets under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. It has been issued for 255 major plants for public comments for 60 days before the rules are finalised.

Spate of exits in environment ministry triggers buzz

The appointment of an assistant private secretary to the Union environment minister Bhupender Yadav, Siddharth Yadav, was terminated on Tuesday, according to a government order dated July 3, a move that comes a day after three other members of the minister’s personal staff were either repatriated to their parent cadres, or saw their appointments terminated through separate orders, also dated July 3.
