Carolina scored a quick goal and got one more before the end of the first period. That was all they needed, though they added to their lead. The Hurricanes stifling defense kept the Flyers off the scoreboard.

Former Eagles GM, Ronald McDonald House Charities co-founder Jim Murray dies at 87

(WPHL) — The architect of the first Eagles team to make it to the Super Bowl, former Birds General Manager Jim Murray, has passed away. Murray joined the Eagles PR department in 1969 and was named GM by former Birds Owner Leonard Tose in 1972. As longtime Eagles fans remember, the team was pretty bad in those days. But in 1976, Murray hired UCLA Head Coach Dick Vermeil, and things started turning around. Vermeil led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl XV in January 1981.
