PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) - The heat is almost done around the Mid-Ohio Valley, but as the high pressure gets pushed away from the region, we will start seeing some scatted showers and storms pop up over the next few days. The Extreme Heat Warning was extended until 8 p.m. July 4th as the heat index is still expected to get up to the triple digits. With all the festivities going on for America 250, it will be important to stay hydrated and safe while celebrating.

(WTAP) - The heat is still sticking around the Mid-Ohio Valley for the next few days, but as we start heading into the weekend, we will both slowly cool down, and start seeing some pop-up showers and thunderstorms. The First Alert Weather Days are still set to run through Saturday as the heat index is still expected to reach the triple digits both Friday and Saturday. Precautions should still be taken like staying hydrated, and taking shade breaks often.

Whenever we meteorologists look at averages and climatological history, we use a 30-year average, as relying on only the year before doesn’t give the clearest picture on how each month’s weather actually behaves. For the last few years, we’ve been using the averages from 1991-2020.
