Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes!
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Three-way tie between Lou Grant, Hildy Johnson and Harriet M. Welsch.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
With a three-sentence description of the story, a strong idea of who would read it and why, and at least three prospective sources.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. Regrettably, they gave me a fashion column.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any time via email, but I don't answer email on Mondays (press deadline day).
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
"Please run this column I've written about [some horrible retrograde topic] as is and send me 25 copies of the paper in which it is printed."
What's your favorite drink?
I love a Dark & Stormy, but most of the time, I have a multi-beverage assortment at my desk: iced coffee, Coke Zero, water, kombucha.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading.
