The Ironmen put up a valiant effort but couldn't escape a 14-0 first-half deficit and fell to Algonquin Jacobs 17-7 in the second round of the playoffs.

It took 26 years to do it again, but Normal West volleyball is headed back to state. The Wildcats took home the 3A Taylorville Super-Sectional championship with a two-set victory over the host Tornadoes on Thursday night.

Three Mid-Illini teams will be in action on Saturday. In 7A, Pekin visits undefeated Rockton Hononegah. In 6A, Washington visits Champaign Centennial and in 5A, Morton visits traditional power Morris.
