Courtesy of Colcheter School District COLCHESTER — After 50 years, Colchester High School now has a new gym floor installed by an alum of the first graduating class. Matt Danaher installed the new floor at CHS this spring. He runs a floor restoration company alongside his wife Lori Danaher called Danaher Floor Restoration in Shrewsbury, Vermont. The company has also installed gym floors at Middlebury College, Vermont Technical College and the University of Vermont, among other places.

From the archives — A special Fourth of July parade and a time capsule

ST. ALBANS — As part of our ongoing work to digitize our film archives, here is a set of photos taken 50 years ago during this week in July of 1976. A bicentennial Fourth of July parade brings out a crowd dressed in traditional colonial attire. Parade floats feature plenty of people of all ages dressed as Uncle Sam, including one on a horse! How did you celebrate the bicentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1976? A time capsule is also being buried in Taylor Park.

PHOTOS: Union Memorial School groundbreaking marked with hope and enthusiastic digging from students

COLCHESTER — School officials, community members and students gathered Tuesday at the construction site at Union Memorial School for a groundbreaking like no other. The groundbreaking was the culmination of years of planning and a successfully-passed town vote for a $115 million school construction bond. Construction on all buildings in the Colchester School District is expected to be completed by 2030.
