Here’s how to support community journalism and have an impact at events during #PTW19
If you’ve ever asked, “How can we get more involved in the local tech community?” — know that the answer is Philly Tech Week. Last year we were so encouraged by the enthusiastic support of Technical.ly’s monthly membership program, we started to think about how nonprofits and social impact-oriented companies could get more involved with the particular goal of fostering community impact through independent local media.

Some great #dataviz of the impact of Philly Tech Week 2018 presented by Comcast
Just look at how many #PTW18 tweets were tweeted during Philly Tech Week 2018 presented by Comcast. Hover over the bubbles and it magnifies the message and image within the tweet. The size of the bubble correlates to how much engagement it received and notes whether it was a retweet or straight from the source. Isn’t it rad to see hashtag results this way instead of the way we’re used to seeing it just written out on a page? We thought so too.

Want $500 off a coding bootcamp? Join Flatiron School at NET/WORK
So it was not small news last fall when the Flatiron School, an early coding bootcamp, was acquired by WeWork, the surging coworking giant. As part of that partnership, Flatiron School is joining D.C.’s rich landscape of programs focused on training up people in various software skills and placing them in talent-hungry tech companies. They want you to know they’re joining the D.C. tech community, and here’s a fine start.

NET/WORK DC 2018 is presented by 1776 and the (newly expanded) Flatiron School on Wednesday, February 28, and hiring organizations will be at Gensler looking for their next candidate. Thanks to our media partners ByteBack, General Assembly and Hire Her. Oh, and from the looks of our survey, there’s at least 100 jobs up for grabs.
A look at the 200+ tech jobs up for grabs at NET/WORK Philly
In case you haven’t noticed from our daily reporting or our On The Market column or our ever-poppin’ jobs board, it’s our mission to connect you to exciting employment opportunities in the City of Brotherly Love. A new way to support local media in Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Independent Media Coalition was convened by Technically Media, the digital news organization that publishes local tech news network Technical.ly and social impact site Generocity.org. In addition to these two sites, which recently launched individual membership programs, the coalition includes Hidden City, Philadelphia Public School Notebook, PhillyCAM and WURD Radio.
Technically Media announces membership program to support its community journalism
Individual readers of Technical.ly, the company’s flagship network of local tech news sites, and social impact site Generocity.org can support community journalism by becoming a paid member. “No point in recent memory has made it clearer how vital journalism, particularly local community journalism, is to dynamic and vibrant cities,” said Technically Media Publisher Christopher Wink.
More than 25 companies are looking for that suburban talent
Hey, friend. Don’t miss your chance to attend NET/WORK Suburbs 2017. Due to Vanguard’s strict building security, all attendees will need to register by this Sunday, Sept. 24. No walk-ins will be allowed at the event. You don’t have to be on the hunt for a more exciting/more profitable/challenging/mission-driven job right now but there’s plenty to go around on our jobs board, which is updated on the daily. Bookmark that jawn.
16 of DC's most active meetups are getting together for one super reason
We’re bringing back the popular summertime event. Last year, more than 450 meetup members came out to kick it all together and the representation of local groups was impressive. Again this year, there will be free drinks and pizza and plenty of chill networking vibes to go around. Whether you’re there to find Meetup groups to join, looking to promote your group or just generally want to spend a summer evening with an awesome group of people, don’t miss out on #SuperMeetup17.
Meet some of the best meetups in Brooklyn
Technical.ly’s mission is focused on bringing communities together. The same could be said of Meetup. But how do you get all of a city’s niche tech meetups together in one place for one purpose? You create a Super Meetup. The idea of the Super Meetup is simple: Meetup groups are integral to any tech scene. Every now and then, it makes sense to rally the leaders of a city’s tech-related meetups and gather for one big mixer.
Sign up for text alerts from our community concierge bot, Joan, during #PTW17
She doesn’t have time to give you wrong answers to the questions you can just search and find yourself and she’s def not a morning person, so don’t even try her before noon. Joan’s out all. Night. Long. She’s getting the scoop on the tech freaks that come out at night and can be seen doing the robot dance and spinning on her head at last year’s Signature Event. She’s on our @Technical_ly ‘gram in there somewhere.
Peep the official Philly Tech Week 2017 T-shirt
While you already know from our NET/WORK tech jobs fair Swag Report series, there is bound to be some really thoughtfully branded swag at all of the 100 tech events happening throughout the city during Philly Tech Week 2017 presented by Comcast from April 28 to May 6. But everyone knows the PTW T-shirt has become somewhat of a collector’s item and a must have if you’re truly down with the Philly tech scene.
Here's where to get your hands on a glossy Philly Tech Week 2017 magazine
For us, creating a paper magazine for Philly Tech Week 2017 presented by Comcast, though highly debated as a worthwhile product for a news website, is truly an act of love. Our intention is not simply to make a guide to the more than 100 events during the week, but to create something of a time capsule that the community can hold on to, show off and be proud to be featured in. To make something to remind us all of how far the tech scene in Philly has come in the past seven years.
Here’s Your Chance To Exhibit At NET/WORK For Free
We’re hosting the fourth-annual NET/WORK Baltimore at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on Feb. 23. Baltimore Innovation Week magazine now available at 50+ locations
While it may be the fifth Baltimore Innovation Week, this is only our fourth time creating a print magazine to complement the dozens of events and activities happening from Sept. 23 to Oct. 1 in Baltimore. The effort it takes to put together 24 pages of ink-worthy content is a challenge for us web folk, but it always ends up being entirely worth it. Our partners at Red Flag Media really stepped up this year with a slick new layout that breathes fresh life into the BIW experience.
