Unsurprisingly, many customer education leaders are also turning to gamification to drive engagement of their programs, but it’s often overlooked that gamification can do much more than simply drive engagement.

Focus on community in housing policy, not perks for developers
The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions and expecting a different result. To deal with the severe lack of affordable housing and the homelessness that occurs as a result, the city keeps following the same playbook, throw money at developers and hope they do the right thing. By allowing our land to be treated as a commodity that can be divided and sold on the financial markets, we are increasingly selling off our very communities.

Is the shipyard really paying its fair share?
Rep. Derek Kilmer and the Navy would have us believe that the shipyard is a big gift from the federal government. However, when you start comparing the actual costs and benefits to Bremerton of having this massive weapons manufacturing facility in our city, the financial burdens quickly outweigh the benefits. On the benefits side, the shipyard is a top employer in Bremerton. However, from the latest U.S. Census we also know that the median income in Bremerton remains lower than most of the nation.

Why Do Some Grocery Chains Not Accept EBT?
EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) is used by about 39 million Americans and provides much-needed assistance to lower-income people. While many stores accept them, not everyone does, so I wondered why do some grocery chains not accept EBT? Here’s what I know from looking into it: Grocery chains sometimes do not accept EBT if they are unable to meet the criteria set up by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture).

With an ESOP, many winners in sale of a business
For many business owners, a succession plan is about more than creating an exit strategy or profiting from the sale of the company. It’s about preserving a legacy in a way that benefits the company and its employees as well as the business owner(s). One way to do that is by selling the business to your employees through an employee stock ownership plan, or ESOP. Unlike selling to a competitor or private equity group, establishing an ESOP provides a range of benefits to all involved.

Small parish engages in big relationships
For the Rev. Kali Christensen, success is not measured in terms of “how many,” but “how much.” How much of the love of Christ has been shown? Measuring success in a church often means numbers: how many members, how many conversions, how many baptisms, how many, how many, how many. For the Rev. Kali Christensen, though, success is measured a little differently. She measures ministry success in terms of “how much.” How much of the love of Christ has been shown?

What Not To Wear...To Court
Last year, I saw a young black man stopped at the doors of the Moultrie Courthouse in Washington, D.C. He was there to watch a trial but was told by a security officer that he couldn’t come in because he was wearing a tank top. I, a law student, was there to assist a public defender in court. When I saw the young man turned around, I wondered whose trial he might be missing — a friend, a family member, a parent?
How to Organise an Unconference

As this is the 6th time that we have run the event, we have gathered some experience by now and I thought it was a good time to share what we have learned about planning and executing such an event. A New Groove: Cisco Customer Care Release 11.6
When I was a kid, I won a vinyl record album in a local contest. (For those of you too young to remember, record albums were how early humans listened to recorded music in the dark ages before streaming music. Or CDs. Or cassette tapes. Or 8-tracks.) I dashed to the neighborhood record store to collect my prize–possibly an Elton John album. I eagerly ran home, where to my dismay, I discovered that my dad’s home-built stereo system had blown a tube. I wasn’t about to listen to anything.

When We Were Small: An Intense Struggle with Depression - OC87 Recovery Diaries
I broke down on a cold December evening and rested my head on the window. I didn’t know how unclean I’d become, until I watched the world fill with snow. My parents always did everything they could for me. It was the seventies. There was hardly any psychiatric medication to speak of then, cognitive therapy was barely emerging and, in general, the information on mental illness was not there to discuss, if you wanted to. I first felt it when I was about eight years old. Depression.

Statement of Cisco’s VP of Government Affairs Jeff Campbell on DC Circuit’s Net Neutrality Ruling
“Cisco is disappointed in the DC Circuit’s decision to uphold the FCC’s open Internet rules. We believe in an open Internet and that balanced rules to protect consumers and prevent anti-competitive behavior are necessary and appropriate. But uncertain regulation under Title II, as provided for by the FCC and upheld by this court, diminishes the enthusiasm for new investments in broadband networks and limits new innovation and business models.
