Avila launches second year in West Valley as newest Catholic university in the Diocese of Phoenix

The Diocese of Phoenix’s expanding faith-based higher-education options are alive and well as Avila University Arizona welcomed its second-ever class of students earlier this week. The Missouri-based Catholic university opened its Goodyear, Ariz., campus in August 2025, offering the opportunity for students to earn graduate-level degrees in business and technology management as well as complete undergraduate learning. Its second fall semester began Aug. 31.

Woman arrested for no-contact violation

HAWARDEN—A 36-year-old Le Mars woman was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 25, on a charge of first-offense trespassing and two counts of violation of a no-contact/protective order for her activities in Hawarden. The arrest of Samantha Marie Sneller stemmed from a report of her being discovered by the residents of a Hawarden home in their garage about 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, according to the Hawarden Police Department. A no-contact order was issued Aug.
