Abstract Establish the feasibility of optimizing PEEP (PEEPOPT) using ventilator software in infants receiving prolonged invasive mechanical ventilation. A retrospective review of infants who underwent PEEPOPT studies. Paired-t test was used to compare dynamic lung compliance (Cdyn), tidal volume (VT), and oxygen saturation (SpO2) before and after PEEPOPT studies.

Introduction In the scientific debate, there is increasing awareness of the relevance of the first years of life as a basis for health and disease, as stated by the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHAD) hypothesis (1). Early at-risk conditions are determined by multiple potential genetic and environmental factors, as clearly exemplified by preterm birth.
