Mode-pairing quantum key distribution (MP-QKD) is a promising protocol immune to detector side-channel attacks and capable of breaking the repeaterless PLOB bound without global phase locking. Existing MP-QKD protocols employ weak coherent sources (WCSs) with a low probability of single-photon emission, hindering MP-QKD’s performance improvement.

Quantum secret sharing (QSS) is a typical multipartite quantum cryptographic primitive. Although QSS is theoretically secure, imperfect experimental devices would threaten its security. The glare blinding attack is a strong attack against practical single-photon detectors. In the paper, we propose a simple and effective glare blinding attack strategy in the practical three-partite QSS system.

Quantum secure direct communications (QSDC) can directly transmit secret messages through a quantum channel without keys. The imperfect photon source is a major obstacle for QSDC’s practical implementation. The unwanted vacuum state and multiphoton components emitted from imperfect photon source largely reduce QSDC’s secrecy message capacity and even threaten its security. In the paper, we propose a high-efficient passive decoy-state QSDC protocol with the heralded single-photon source (HSPS).
