A novel method to disentangle tightly linked risk and resilience genes for brain disorders: application to Alzheimer’s disease
Abstract Genetic risk factors for neuropsychiatric disorders are well documented. However, some individuals with high genetic risk remain unaffected, and the mechanisms underlying such resilience remain poorly understood. The presence of protective resilience factors that mitigate risk could help explain the disconnect between predicted risk and reality, particularly when genetic contributions are substantial but incompletely understood.
An In Situ Oxidation Strategy for Ti 3 C 2 @TiO 2 Heterojunction: Narrow-Band Photodetection and Trace Chromium Ion Determination
Jiahui Hou, Jiale Ai and Mingqi He contributed equally for this work. 1 Introduction As core hardware for converting optical signals to electrical signals, photodetectors (PDs) are widely used in optoelectronic fields such as environmental monitoring [1], machine vision [2], and image sensing [3].
Synthesis of Core-Shell Te@Se Quantum Dots and Their Broadband Photodetector Performance in Low Concentration Electrolytes
1 Introduction Owing to the advantages of size-tunable band gaps, high absorption coefficients, and solution processability, quantum dots (QDs) have demonstrated great potential in the field of photodetection [1-3]. For instance, HgTe QDs exhibit broadband response and can be used for optoelectronic logic gates [4]. A self-powered shortwave infrared photodetector can be achieved based on Ag2Te QDs [5].

Relationship between hearing impairment and dementia and cognitive function: a Mendelian randomization study - Alzheimer's Research & Therapy
We inferred causal relationships between different subtypes of hearing impairment (exposures) and dementia and cognition (outcomes) using univariable 2-sample MR, in which the effects of the genetic instruments on the exposure and the outcome are obtained from two separate, non-overlapping datasets.
Sustainable Iron Production via Highly Efficient Low-Temperature Electrolysis of 3D Conductive Colloidal Electrodes
Sustainable Iron Production via Highly Efficient Low-Temperature Electrolysis of 3D Conductive Colloidal Electrodes Towards decarbonizing the carbothermic reduction of iron and steelmaking which produces around 5% of global CO2 emissions, we herein propose a low-temperature electrolysis (100 °C) with 3D electrically-ionically conductive colloidal Fe2O3 electrodes as a novel and sustainable alternative.
Zwitterion‐Lubricated Hydrogel Microspheres Encapsulated with Metformin Ameliorate Age‐Associated Osteoarthritis
1 Introduction Osteoarthritis (OA) is an age-associated degenerative joint disorder, leading to debilitating pain and function loss in older adults.[1, 2] Age is believed to be the most prevalent risk factor for OA pathogenesis, although other risk factors, such as joint injury, obesity, and genetics, have all been associated with the onset of OA.[3] Chondrocytes are a unique cell type in articular cartilage.
Polygenic Resilience Scores are Associated with Lower Penetrance of Schizophrenia Risk Genes, Protection Against Psychiatric and Medical Disorders, and Enhanced Mental Well-Being and Cognition
The authors have declared no competing interest. This study received funding from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute on Aging (NIA), and National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). I confirm all relevant ethical guidelines have been followed, and any necessary IRB and/or ethics committee approvals have been obtained.
Targeting endothelial PDGFR‐β facilitates angiogenesis‐associated bone formation through the PAK1/NICD axis
1 INTRODUCTION Bone, a tissue of remarkable complexity, reveals a tapestry of intricate vasculature. The presence of these blood vessels within the bone fabric is indispensable for fostering bone growth and upholding a harmonious equilibrium, known as homeostasis. These vital conduits play a pivotal role in providing essential nourishment and life-sustaining oxygen to the bone tissue.

Morphology controlled performance of ternary layered oxide cathodes - Communications Materials
Abstract With the rapid advancement of electric vehicle technologies, ternary layered oxide cathodes in commercial Li-ion batteries have become increasingly promising due to their high energy density and low cost. However, the need for higher energy density and cell stability has posed significant challenges in their development.
Green Closed-Loop Process for Selective Recycling of Lithium from Spent Lithium-ion Batteries
Green Closed-Loop Process for Selective Recycling of Lithium from Spent Lithium-ion Batteries Jiahui Hou, Xiaotu Ma, Jinzhao Fu, Panawan Vanaphuti, Zeyi Yao, Yangtao Liu, Zhenzhen Yang and Yan Wang Abstract As the economy started to recover from the COVID pandemic, the price of Li2CO3 is skyrocketed to the highest. This situation has aggravated concerns on the supply chain for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs).

2-Hydroxy-oleic acid does not activate sphingomyelin synthase activity
2-Hydroxy-oleic acid (2OHOA) is a potent anticancer drug that induces cancer cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. We have previously proposed that 2OHOA-mediated inhibition of sphingomyelin synthase (SMS), especially of SMS2, could be a potential therapeutic approach to manage metabolic diseases. However, other studies have suggested that 2OHOA’s anticancer effect is mediated by SMS activation in cancer cells, including A549 and U118 cells.
