What was your first job as a journalist?

It was writing reviews for a small arts magazine in Seattle, Washington.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, throughout high school and college.

How is social media changing news?

Art exhibitions can receive reviews faster online which benefits both the artist and gallery.

Murphy Browne.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To capture both contemporary and historical context when writing about artists or art exhibitions.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#Notsure as I'm still figuring out hashtags.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to receive email communications with relevant materials such as the scope of the project and images.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Word processing software and relevant iPhone applications.

What's your favorite social network?

It's evenly divided between Facebook and Instagram.

Who do you wish followed you?

I never thought of that.

Why did you become a journalist?

I felt that there were not enough viable connections being made for art, artists and readers.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No. I started writing after my undergraduate studies.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

"Facebook, the Image and the Virtual Cedar Bar" that appeared in the 2009 September/October issue of Afterimage.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Maintain copious notes offline and a vast social media presence online.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch was to interview Michael Halsband for Whitehot Magazine.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

I've never accepted a pitch that I did not like.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Either reading, watching a movie or looking at art exhibits.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

My favorite publication to read is Vanity Fair.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

The common misperception is that art is not relevant to every day life.
