Jillian Beck’s Biography

I just graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in political science, cum laude. But most of my four years there, I spent working at the university’s newspaper, the Daily Bruin, where I served as a student government reporter, campus news editor and editor in chief.

Currently, I am currently across the country interning at the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, VA covering the Virginia Beach region and pitching in on the breaking news desk on Saturday nights. In the past, I’ve had stints at the Orange County Register as a news reporting intern covering Irvine, Calif. and as a freelance writer for the Daily Pilot, the Los Angeles Times Community Newspaper for the Newport-Mesa area in Orange County.

Local news is my sweet spot, and I gravitate toward accountability and local government reporting. I’m a Twitter fanatic can often be found live-tweeting events or joining in on Twitter chats. In my spare time, I love reading political nonfiction, cheering for the Red Sox and drinking lots of coffee.
