Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, I learned to type on an IBM Selectric in high school.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Lou Grant
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email outlining what and when and if review units are available.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Macbook Pro and an iPhone
Why did you become a journalist?
I was always a news consumer. I started as a newspaper photographer and transitioned to working on the IT side, and finally writing.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Any time I get to mention my mom. I always say I write my technology columns so that my mom would understand.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't get into journalism for the money.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Doesn't really matter, as I read my emails throughout the day. My freelance contract is for tech gadget reviews only.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I have an outlet for stories outside what I'm paid to write. My editors want gadget reviews only.
