Jim Seebock’s Biography

Jim Seebock has served as a Henderson, Nevada, City Councilman for the last three years. The city includes the historic Water District and is known as Nevada’s second-largest city. In this role, he works closely with the mayor and fellow councilmembers to help shape policies and make decisions on matters affecting the community. Henderson is widely recognized as one of the safest cities and one of the best places to live in the United States.

Before entering public office, Jim spent many years working in law enforcement. During that time, he gained experience leading large organizations and managing responsibilities in demanding situations. His professional background includes strategic planning, operational leadership, and organizational management. He developed a reputation for supporting strong teams, improving operations, and helping departments work more effectively over the long term.

Seebock's experience also included directing large-scale security operations, overseeing major events, and managing investigations connected to public safety and counterterrorism. Throughout his law enforcement career, he focused on practical problem-solving and continuous improvement. He regularly evaluated operational challenges, developed workable solutions, and encouraged feedback to improve performance and efficiency.

In 2023, Councilman Jim Seebock won Henderson’s first-ever special election for the Ward 1 council seat after completing a 30-year career with the Metropolitan Police Department. The election marked an important moment for the city, and he later earned reelection in 2024. During that campaign, he received endorsements from the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Political Endorsement Committee and the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters.

As part of Jim's responsibilities as a councilman, he also represents Henderson in several regional organizations. These include the Regional Transportation Commission, the Regional Flood Control organization, and the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. Through these positions, he contributes to discussions and decisions involving transportation, flood management, and housing matters throughout Southern Nevada.

Seebock began his career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1993. Over more than three decades, he worked in a wide range of assignments and leadership positions. His career included service as a Patrol Officer, Narcotics Detective, K9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Counterterrorism Lieutenant, and Captain.

As a captain, Seebock supervised several major areas within the department. One of his assignments involved leading the Organizational Development Bureau, where he managed training operations for nearly 5,000 department employees. His responsibilities included oversight of the Police Academy, field training programs, advanced tactical instruction, and use-of-force review systems.

Jim later served as Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center. In that role, he coordinated intelligence sharing and operational efforts among more than 20 local, state, and federal agencies. He also managed grant programs and directed counterterrorism and crime analysis initiatives to strengthen public safety and regional coordination.

Another major leadership assignment involved commanding the SWAT Bureau. Jim directed tactical operations during barricade and hostage situations while supervising specialized units, including crisis negotiators and homeland security teams. During these critical operations, he carried full responsibility for tactical outcomes and decision-making.

In 2020, Seebock was promoted to Deputy Chief. In this role, he supervised the Community Policing, Tourist Safety, and Detention Services Divisions. His responsibilities included oversight of operations connected to the Las Vegas Strip, major public events, detention facilities, and broader public safety initiatives across the department.

Two years later, in 2022, Jim earned promotion to Assistant Sheriff, the third-highest rank within the department. In this position, he oversaw all uniformed officers and helped manage large-scale departmental operations.

During major emergencies and critical incidents, the department activates a Department Operations Center to coordinate response efforts. These situations can include natural disasters, officer-related tragedies, and other large-scale emergencies. He was selected multiple times to lead the operations center, including during the response to the October 1, 2017, Las Vegas mass shooting.

Throughout Jim's law enforcement career, he received several honors for his service and leadership. These recognitions included the Unit Medal of Valor, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Community Service Award. After more than 30 years in law enforcement, he retired in July 2023.

While serving with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Jim continued pursuing higher education and professional training. He earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from the College of Southern Nevada. He later completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Law Enforcement from Nevada State College. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

In addition to Seebock's academic studies, he completed Nevada POST training at the Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Management, and Executive levels. He also participated in the Henderson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.

Jim's additional training included attendance at the Anti-Defamation League’s Western States Leadership Seminar in Israel. He also completed post-blast investigator training at the FBI training facility, further strengthening his experience in emergency response and security operations.

Jim Seebock, Councilman, moved to Henderson with his family in 1986. He grew up with one brother and one sister and attended Burkholder Junior High School before graduating from Basic High School. While he was still in high school, his father passed away. As a result, his mother worked two jobs to support the family, and he took on additional responsibilities at a young age while helping care for and support his sister.

Jim met his wife, Barbara, in high school, and they married in 1996. They later became parents to boy and girl twins through embryo adoption. As a family, they have enjoyed spending time together through trips to the beach, visits to Disneyland, and hiking in their local community and other places they travel.

Their 19-year-old twins currently attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Northern Arizona University. The family attends Central Christian Church, where Jim Seebock has volunteered for more than 30 years. His service at the church has included work in the bookstore, welcome team, guest relations, and small group leadership. He is currently involved in the legacy ministry.
