Characteristic modes possess a natural environmental interpretation in the current domain because the surrounding scene is carried by the Green function used to construct the impedance operator. An equally direct physical interpretation is less evident in the scattering domain once the background itself participates in propagation and feedback.

Frontiers | Narrowband ultraviolet B radiation attenuates nucleus pulposus pyroptosis to ameliorate intervertebral disc degeneration by activating NRF2/KEAP1 antioxidant pathway
1 Introduction Lower back pain (LBP) is one of the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders worldwide. Its average prevalence rate among adults is approximately 12%, and the chronic lifelong rate is about 40% (1). Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD) has been identified as a major pathological basis for LBP. Current therapeutic strategies for IVDD primarily consist of conservative treatments or surgical interventions.

Stability of Aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 on Masks and Transfer to Skin
The potential for masks to act as fomites in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has been suggested but not demonstrated experimentally or observationally. In this study, we aerosolized a suspension of SARS-CoV-2 in saliva and used a vacuum pump to pull the aerosol through six different types of masks.

SARS-CoV-2 on Surfaces and HVAC Filters in Dormitory Rooms
While there have been many studies of SARS-CoV-2 contamination in hospital patients’ rooms, less is known about the virus’ presence in nonhealthcare environments, which is where most transmission takes place. We investigated virus contamination in university dormitories housing students who were in quarantine or isolation.
Infectious SARS-CoV-2 is emitted in aerosols
Abstract Respiratory viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 are transmitted in respiratory droplets and aerosols, which are released during talking, breathing, coughing, and sneezing. Non-contact transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has been demonstrated, suggesting transmission in aerosols. Here we demonstrate that golden Syrian hamsters emit infectious SARS-CoV-2 in aerosols, prior to and concurrent with the onset of mild clinical signs of disease.

Increasing Freshwater Salinity Impacts Aerosolized Bacteria
Increases in the salt concentration of freshwater result in detrimental impacts on water quality and ecosystem biodiversity. Biodiversity effects include freshwater microbiota, as increasing salinity can induce shifts in the structure of native freshwater bacterial communities, which could disturb their role in mediating basal ecosystem services. Moreover, salinity affects the wave breaking and bubble-bursting mechanisms via which water-to-air dispersal of bacteria occurs.
Inward and outward effectiveness of cloth masks, a surgical mask, and a face shield
Abstract We evaluated the effectiveness of 11 face coverings for material filtration efficiency, inward protection efficiency on a manikin, and outward protection efficiency on a manikin. At the most penetrating particle size, the vacuum bag, microfiber cloth, and single-layer surgical-type mask had material filtration efficiencies >50%, while the other materials had much lower filtration efficiencies.
Trends in prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus in Zhejiang Province, China, 2016-2018
Abstract Background Limited population-based studies have investigated the secular trend of prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in mainland China. Therefore, this study aimed to estimate the prevalence of GDM and time trends in Chinese female population. Methods Based on Diabetes Surveillance System of Zhejiang Province, 97,063 diagnosed GDM cases aged 20–50 years were identified from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018.

A Novel Electromagnetic Power-Based Characteristic Mode for Magneto-Dielectric Materials
In this paper, we focus on the characteristics of electromagnetic power of characteristic modes (CMs) for magneto-dielectric materials (MDM). A generalized integral form of Poynting's theorem is proposed. Based on the generalized integral form of Poynting's theorem, an explicit formulation for electromagnetic power of traditional VIE (volume integral equation)-based CM and PMCHWT (Poggio, Miller, Chang, Harrington, Wu, and Tsai)-based CM of homogeneous MDM is presented for the first time.
MiR-137 inhibited cell proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells via targeting IGFBP-5 and modulating the mTOR/STAT3 signaling
Abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases. Studies have shown the great impact of microRNAs (miRNAs) on the cell proliferation of VSMCs. This study examined the effects of miR-137 on the cell proliferation and migration of VSMCs and also explored the underlying molecular mechanisms. The mRNA and protein expression levels were determined by qRT-PCR and western blot assays, respectively.
