April was spent entirely in Chicago hanging out with Ada and having fun playing Papal Election of 1492. I read just four books. This is what happens when I don’t spend any time reading. I’ll have more for you in May, I’m sure! Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears — Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling (1995) Another collection of re-told fairytales, by a large range of people.

March was an excellent month that started in Florence, doing some tweaking and revision of my novel (Sunlit Uplands, coming next year from Tor) and seeing the spring begin. Then I came to Chicago, where I still am, which is alternately winter and spring as if it’s rolling dice. I read just seven books, and some of them were amazing. Malafrena— Ursula K. Le Guin (1979) This is a very strange book.

I consider their fiction to be both smart and genre-aware, and I’ve enjoyed Walton’s non-fiction columns at Tor/Reactor for years as well as her non-fiction book about the Hugos.
