Review: Broadway’s ‘The Rocky Horror Show’ can’t escape its midnight movie counterpart
For the many fans of the 1975 cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” the idea of screaming “Asshole!” and “Slut!” at a movie screen, while amateurs reenact the scenes, seems like the perfect night out. Now, over 50 years since the film’s premiere—and 24 since “The Rocky Horror Show” has graced the Broadway stage—the question remains: Is there really anything new to add to the beloved musical?

Rent to Have One-Night-Only Concert on Broadway, Says OG Musical Director Tim Weil
Before Hamilton, Broadway had Rent, the rare show that transcends mere Broadway success to become a cultural touchstone, changing the industry and truly permeating the mainstream zeitgeist. The show is most noted for bringing '90s-style rock music to Broadway, giving a modern spin to Puccini's classic opera La Bohéme—but with electric guitars subbing for woodwinds and AIDS taking the place of tuberculosis.

This current revival, which began previews in late March and opens at the Booth Theatre on April 16, stars Emmy Award winner Ayo Edibiri (The Bear) and Golden Globe winner Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda), who are both making their Broadway performance debuts in their respective roles.
Review: ‘Giant,’ produced by Nicole Kramer, SoA ’20, swings more morality play than nuanced theater
Roald Dahl, though perhaps your favorite childhood author, was a complicated man. Known for capturing both the whimsical and solemn moments of childhood in classics like “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “Matilda,” Dahl also publicly declared himself antisemitic in a 1990 statement to British newspaper The Independent.
Review: The Public Theater’s ‘JESA’ takes its audience beyond a simple familial ritual to the beginnings of healing
Almost all Americans came from somewhere else. But as we become American, how and why do we choose to continue, abandon, or alter the traditions of our family? Written by Jeena Yi, SoA ’14, and directed by Mei Ann Teo, SoA ’14, “JESA” follows four sisters who gather to perform a “제사”—the eponymous word meaning a traditional Korean ritual honoring the dead—for their Appa and more recently deceased Umma, meaning father and mother in Korean, respectively.
How to See Proof on Broadway for $45
Broadway's upcoming revival of David Auburn's Tony- and Pulitzer-winning Proof is only a few short days away from performances, and Playbill has the information you need to see the starry production economically. Directed by Tony winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton), and produced by Mike Bosner and Kail, Proof will play a strictly limited 16-week engagement at the Booth Theatre beginning March 31. Opening night is set for April 16.

Review: Ancient Greece enters modernity in The Public Theater’s ‘Antigone (This Play I Read in High School),’ directed by Tyne Rafaeli, SoA ’14
One of the theatrical canon’s most lauded heroines, Antigone, is back on a major stage, now wearing a black leather jacket and a punk plaid skirt. The world premiere of Anna Ziegler’s adaptation of Sophocles’ tragedy doesn’t just bring the classic to the modern age but also exposes how Antigone and the politics of the female body have been with us all along.

Review: ‘Marjorie Prime’ timelessly takes on AI with Cynthia Nixon, BC ’88, center stage
In the era of AI companions, the question of humanity’s relationship with technology has, perhaps, never been more pressing. Second Stage Theater’s latest production, “Marjorie Prime,” affirms this reality with its exploration of the growing phenomenon of humans turning to artificial intelligence for emotional support. Following an off-Broadway run at Playwrights Horizon in 2015, “Marjorie Prime” opened on Broadway 10 years later at the Helen Hayes Theater on Dec. 8, 2025.

REVIEW: See musical 'Parade' at Proctors while you can
Bigotry was very much a part of the American South in the early 1900s. Not just bias against blacks, but also Jews. The latter is being played out in the musical “Parade,” which is currently beginning its national tour at Proctors in Schenectady. It’s a musical dramatization of the true story of Leo Frank. A factory manager in Atlanta in 1913 wrongly accused and convicted of raping and murdering a 13 year old factory worker, Frank was sentenced to be hanged.
Max Chernin, Talia Suskauer talk starring roles in 'Parade' at Proctors
SCHENECTADY — Max Chernin has been in Leo Frank’s shoes before — just not on a full-time basis. As a cast member in the 2023 Broadway revival of “Parade,” Chernin understudied the role of Frank, the Jewish American factory manager whose 1913 trial and subsequent 1915 lynching in Georgia is the basis of the story behind the musical.

Elton John’s embarrassing $25M Broadway flop was predictable - the Rocket Man keeps crashing
In 2000, the $15 million Disney musical “Aida” got a zero’s welcome to Broadway. The show starring Heather Headley and Sherie Rene Scott was slammed by theater critics (“a pompous bore,” said The Post’s Clive Barnes) and didn’t manage a coveted Tony Award nomination for Best Musical. But, as male lead Radames sings, fortune favors the brave.
Review: Self-effacement in David Henry Hwang’s ‘Yellow Face’
“Yellow Face,” with performances from Sept. 13 through Nov. 24 at the Todd Haimes Theatre, is a profoundly uncomfortable exploration of racism, identity, and the double standard that blurs racial boundaries for some and militantly enforces them for others. It’s also hysterically, ruthlessly funny, the kind of humor that embraces discomfort as a language of comedy and eviscerates everything in its path. To describe “Yellow Face” as metatextual would be an understatement.
