1 Introduction Elasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays) are one of the most highly threatened taxonomic groups globally (Stein et al. 2018) with over one third of species thought to be threatened with extinction (Dulvy et al. 2021). Around the United Kingdom (UK), Elasmobranchs are commonly caught in mixed-species fisheries and represent a large proportion of discards at-sea (Silva and Ellis 2019).
