9.1K Sometimes running isn’t the answer. Sometimes running isn’t enough. Sometimes, running is even the problem. But I don’t know how to function any other way. A couple of weeks ago, I hurt a rib. My partner and I were packing up from a weekend away, and had just finished our morning run. I had worn his shoes out to the car to load our duffel bags and jokingly told him he could just carry me back inside so I could leave the shoes in the trunk. Of course he took me up on this.

9K If you knew me years ago, you might have described me as someone built for endurance. I tended to lean into activities that took time and effort: graduate studies, yoga training, writing and long-distance running races. It was the rhythm I lived by – steady, persistent and comfortable in the spaces where patience and heart mattered most. Along my journey, I lost my mom, and then my dad and while I thought I would break, I learned to keep loving, striving and trusting.

7.6K Reflections on TEDx Vero Beach Earlier this month, TEDx Vero Beach brought together 12 visionary speakers under the theme Breaking Barriers: Systems That Challenge the Status Quo. These trailblazers shared ideas that challenge conventional thinking and inspire innovation. A 13th speaker, Bob Becker – an 80-year-old ultrarunner and Badwater 135 finisher – was scheduled to speak but was sidelined by illness. His absence was felt, but his spirit of endurance echoed throughout the day.
