The transformation of Pennsylvania’s green landscape to a kaleidoscope of color arrives at the intersection of right time and place. “We have a significant component of northern hardwoods — cherry, maple, birch and aspen — and a significant component of southern hardwoods — oaks and hickory,” said Ryan Reed, natural resource program specialist, Bureau of Forestry. More than 130 types of trees, shrubs and vines across the commonwealth bring lots of color through autumn.
