How did two important rock musicians from the counterculture era make their way to Fresno, with both going on to new careers in the field of Christian worship music? The stories of Barry McGuire and Terry Talbot, today on KVPR’s Central Valley Roots. The band Mason Proffit was founded in 1969 in Indiana by brothers Terry Talbot and John Michael Talbot. They had a country-rock sound that predated that of groups like The Eagles, who reportedly cited the band as an early influence.

The colorful artwork of the Duncan Ceramics Building today on KVPR's Central Valley Roots. Erma Duncan and her family founded their business in Fresno in 1946 specializing in ceramic glazes. They quickly gained a good reputation in the hobbyist community and moved to a facility near the Fresno Air Terminal at Clovis Avenue and East Shields Avenue.

The history behind Fresno's Fig Garden Village shopping center

It's a treasured part of Fresno's past and present and one of the city's oldest and most successful shopping centers. The story of Fig Garden Village today on KVPR's Central Valley Roots. Much of what we today call the Old Fig Garden neighborhood was developed before World War II. Here developers JC Forkner and Wylie M Giffen sold large lots south of Shaw along Van Ness to aspiring gentleman farmers, on what was then the northern fringe of Fresno.
