The Inquiring Taxpayer noted with some pleasure that the Ontario County Industrial Development Agency was in the news recently. It’s the sort of pleasure that one gets from running the tongue across a sore tooth. Over the years I’ve written numerous columns with regard to OCIDA. Mostly critical. Some friends have asked me why I bother. Hey, if Jeremy Harper can spend 89 days counting to 1 million, I can devote some time to a slightly (barely, I fear) more useful endeavor.

Watching tournament golf on TV is a relaxing experience. Unlike when watching an NFL game, let alone hockey, the viewer can either enjoy the “action” or take a nap as the mood strikes.

To some extent “growing up” is a journey toward cynicism (some of us prefer to call it a healthy skepticism). A journey to a place beyond the homely teachings pressed upon us in childhood. Remember being told that “if you can’t say something good about someone, don’t say anything?” A more limited version was, “Don’t speak ill of the dead,” which allowed some leeway regarding the living.
