COOLIDGE — Only about 24 hours after finding out they were allowed to play in the biggest game of most of their lives, the Coolidge Bears ran onto the court at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum with a lot weighing on their hearts, but ready to play. In fact, they were more than ready. After scoring the first seven points of the game, there were few signs that the Bears had spent two days thinking their season was over.

Cougars drop play-in game after giving up second-half run

CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande Union Cougars gave their fans some final thrilling moments in Wednesday’s play-in game for the 5A boys basketball tournament, but a second half dominated by the Tucson Catalina Foothills Falcons ensured their season came to an end. The No. 16 Cougars (14-5) had control of the game going into halftime, thanks in large part to a physically dominating performance by Aveon Williams in his final high school game.
