Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

A few times

What's your favorite social network?

Imgur

Why did you become a journalist?

I revel in analyzing the benefits and effects of technology in daily life and want to share that enthusiasm with others.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was on the yearbook staff my junior year doing layout for advertisements in the back of book. I first wrote news articles in college.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

There's always someone trying to control the narrative of whatever you cover. Stand your ground to defend your audience from these interests.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Unnecessary, overpriced "smart" versions of everyday tools like combs and cups are the bane of my existence.

What's your favorite drink?

Dr. Pepper Cherry

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Vox rests comfortably at the top of my list, though Ars Technica, The Verge, and Vice all capture my attention on a regular basis.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Home security systems won't stop a determined person from breaking into your home—they're mainly a tactic to deter opportunists.
