John Damschroder Columnist This is my final column in the News-Messenger. I am leaving this freelance position for a full-time role in the editorial department of the Toledo Blade. There is no way I would have sought or been selected for an opinion journalism post, without the experience and portfolio from Fremont. From the onset of this column in 2016, the premise has been that it’s Ohio which distinguishes our Fremont from the 22 U.S. locations with the same name.

Damschroder: The view through a truck windshield

Since the start of the year I’ve spent a couple days a week driving a truck around the region, delivering meat for a small business to other small businesses. I’ve met a lot of hard working people in the process while traversing some truly terrible roads. In between stops there is a lot of time to think. The 0.5% income tax levy Fremont has on the ballot is clearly needed way beyond Fremont.
