Have you ever used a typewriter?
The first story I ever wrote was on my grandmother's typewriter, which I found almost as fascinating as her old green-screen computer.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
John Moore from Caleb Carr's The Alienist. The book was WAY better than the TV show.
What's your favorite social network?
Ugh. The one I HATE least is YouTube (yes, it's also a social network).
Who do you wish followed you?
I've never thought of that before. I don't pay much attention to social media. As long as I have words to write, I'm a happy camper.
Why did you become a journalist?
Survival. I knew I could write, but turning those words into food was tricky. I started in copywriting, then news, now marketing.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Sadly, my high school didn't have a newspaper. So I had to write and distribute my own comics and TI-83 games.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
That's between me and my agent for now.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Globalization, baby. Time is relative. Pitch whenever.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
I once got hired to ghostwrite a dead-serious chapbook on exorcisms, which was a blast.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Too many to count. I work a lot with international clients, so there's a language barrier issue sometimes.
What's your favorite drink?
Polar Birch Beer. It's like root beer, but it tastes like white Lifesavers. Trust me. Can't find it outside of the Northeast US.
