ADA Transition Committee elects new leadership
NORWALK, Conn. — Former ADA Transition Committee Chair Carol Frank resigned from her position due to scheduling conflicts at the committee’s special meeting on Oct. 21. The committee elected Derick Demarche and James McClellan as co-chairs. “I’m disabled myself and I really feel it’s really important to firmly advocate for people with disabilities so that we’re not isolated and can participate in the city as much as possible,” McClellan said.

To the Editor: In Tuesday evening’s gubernatorial forum in Bridgeport, hosted by FaithActs for Education, Gov. Ned Lamont made a slight against our Bridgeport Board of Education while touting his work on education with Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim. The email warm-up tool.
Hi Product Hunt Community! I’m Naim, and I handle the technical account management side of things at Mailwarm. If there’s one thing I’ve learned the hard way, it’s this: when your emails start hitting spam, it’s almost never for just one reason. It’s a ghost in the machine. Maybe a DNS record is slightly off. Maybe a sudden spike in sending volume triggered a filter. Or worse ... your domain reputation has been quietly tanking for weeks, and you only notice when your reply rates hit zero.
The evolution of eyespots in skates and rays
|
Abstract Animals deploy a wide range of anti-predator adaptations, often combining multiple strategies into a ‘defence portfolio’. However, why certain defences evolve together whereas others are mutually exclusive remains unclear. Here we use a phylogenetic approach to examine the evolution of conspicuous visual markings—including eyespots and other conspicuous markings—alongside alternative anti-predator defences in skates and rays (Batoidea), a diverse group of cartilaginous fishes.

A brief history of political cleansing in Montana
In 2007, a group of right-wing extremists, the precursor of the modern Freedom Caucus, took control of the Republican Party in the Legislature. It immediately announced a plan to reduce the state budget and, over the next several months, went through a series of procedural gyrations, including trying to send a 1 cent education budget from the House to the Senate. The session ended without a state budget and the Republican Caucus fractured.

NEW ‘Letters From the Chairman’s desk’
February 21, 2026 Hook, Right Jab” column, I am left unguided to write about a topic of my choosing. In light of the extinction of College Democrats, I thought I’d extend the olive branch and express my sympathies to the membership who remain vocal in their efforts to reclaim their club. However, as the leader of the College Republicans, I have an obligation to my club membership to take a political victory lap.

Left Hook, Right Jab: Drug boats, supreme court, and college funding
Has the policy of striking Caribbean drug boats been a good one? R. This was no everyday fishing trip or an episode of Gilligan’s Island – these were armed, evasive vessels acting like criminals on the run, and U.S. military and intelligence officials judged them to be a direct narcotics threat to our country. The administration says the strikes targeted narco-terrorist logistics – interdiction aimed at stopping fentanyl and other deadly drugs before they reach American streets.
Left Hook, Right Jab: Shutdowns, visas, and woodchucks
October 9, 2025 Why does Congress keep playing chicken with the potential for a shutdown? R: The real reason Congress continues to “play chicken” with these overhyped shutdowns is that neither side wishes to budge, and they both understand the optics are much worse than the implications.
My struggle against the communal cacophony
October 9, 2025 So, what’s the deal with music in the shower? Why, as a civilized society, have we now deemed it good and proper to blast our preferred genres of detestable filth into the ether? Of course, I say this mostly in jest. However, like the ‘70s soft rock band Ace, I must ask: how long has this been going on? Now, it probably wouldn’t bother me as much if the song selections were half-decent.
How I became a pusher
I remember with great fondness my very first months on campus as a Freshman. While everyone else enjoyed days of wine and roses, I would often be cooped up in my basement room of Dominic Hall listening to light music, illuminated by the desk lamp. I’d often be found with the door open, letting the little clear air we could get circulate through the room. When I wasn’t occupied with Latin homework or reading, I’d often turn to family history research. Soon, I found my calling. I became a pusher.

A reflection on summer
I sit down to write this piece in my cellar “office” on a rainy Wednesday morning in late August. “I Want You” by Bob Dylan and “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” by Crosby, Stills & Nash play gently in the background. Beside me, on the bench of my Viscount organ, a photo album I was scanning lies open, filled with memories of people and places gone by. I haven’t done much traveling this season.

Planning and Zoning Commission Approves Lawsuit Settlement with Terzian Trucking Company
NORWALK, Conn. – Two lawsuits involving Terzian Trucking Company are possibly reaching their conclusion as the Planning and Zoning Commission voted to approve a tentative settlement agreement with Westport resident Bryan Terzian. The commission found that the settlement is “mutually beneficial” and provides clarification for both parties to avoid future conflicts. Commissioner Louis Schulman said this was a prudent move due to the risks of a negative outcome if either lawsuit went to trial.

Reps. Ed Buttrey and John Fitzpatrick: Medicaid expansion crucial for rural Montanans
The decision whether to end Montana’s expanded Medicaid program is one of the top debates this legislative session. Over the past decade, the HELP Act has prevented rural hospital closures, kept Montanans healthy and free of addiction, and saved taxpayer dollars, which is why we must pass HB 245 to preserve Montana’s fiscally responsible Medicaid expansion.

Are we losing the art of in-person conversation?
You walk into the dining hall at 11:30 on a Wednesday morning, again at 6 o’clock that evening, and again on Thursday morning. What do you see – regardless of where you sit? Groups and gaggles of students who call themselves “friends” pecking away at their phones, laptops, and “smart” watches. I’ll admit that these gadgets & gizmos have graced our lives with many versatile services and are general blessings – I’m not a small-minded Luddite by any stretch of the imagination.

Halloween: From sacred tradition to secular celebration
Costumes, candy, commercialization … three words that can succinctly describe the modern image of Halloween. Besides slasher films and an eerie chill in the air, Halloween is viewed as just another one of our American traditions and a staple of consumerism. As an Irish Catholic, it leaves me scratching my head, wondering how a holiday with such deep Christian and Gaelic roots could have become so distorted.
On Parking
The growing frustration over on-campus parking at Saint Anselm is palpable, whether it’s family weekend, homecoming, or a busy campus tour day. With students, faculty, and visitors competing for limited spaces, parking has become a source of ongoing unrest. After family weekend, I took it upon myself to speak with members of the Saint Anselm community about their experiences with on-campus parking and ways to improve. I will share some of these experiences and suggestions with you today.

On the importance of frugality in the 21st century
Of all the hobbies in the world, there is none more satisfying than the art of saving money. To buy something desirable at a discounted price is the new American Dream. I’ve bought everything from stamps, buttons, books, and artwork at estate sales and flea markets that have proven their value in the resale market (although I’ve yet to part with any of my hauls).

Modern America and its self-centered spirit
The oldest person I ever met (by year of birth) was born in 1906. The oldest person I ever knew was born in 1914. I’ve gotten to know many fascinating people across several generations in my relatively short lifetime. In my conversations with them, I’ve gained valuable knowledge and insight that have shaped me into who I am today. However, it would seem as though modern American society is increasingly self-centered.

2024 MLB Draft Profile: Corey Collins
Corey Collins, coming off a monstrous senior season at Georgia, is poised to be one of, if not the first, senior player off the board in the 2024 MLB Draft. Collins was an intriguing prospect out of high school as a catcher who had a good freshman year at Georgia but did not quite put it all together in his subsequent years at UGA until this season. The first thing to denote Corey's impressive season is that he led all qualified Division One batters with a .574 on-base percentage.

Impacts of increasing isolation and environmental variation on Florida Scrub-Jay demography
Abstract Isolation caused by anthropogenic habitat fragmentation can destabilize populations. Populations relying on the inflow of immigrants can face reduced fitness due to inbreeding depression as fewer new individuals arrive. Empirical studies of the demographic consequences of isolation are critical to understand how populations persist through changing conditions.
