Raiders Claim CAAC White title
Friday night was a party at Portland High School as the Raiders played for the CAAC White title while celebrating Homecoming. The Portland community showed up and showed out to support its Raiders football team. Before the game, there was what I would call a small parade recognizing Raiders athletes and their accomplishments. It was a great way to kick off the Homecoming football game. From the very beginning, Portland looked like the stronger squad.
Portland Rolls past Lansing Catholic one win away from a share of the conference Title
Last Friday, October 2nd, the Portland Raiders traveled to Lansing Catholic and left victorious. The game started with a touchdown from Carson Spenski, putting the Raiders ahead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. From then on, the Raiders kicked it into another gear. Spenski found the end zone twice in the second quarter, while quarterback Carson Simon threw two touchdowns — one to Kehyan Page and another to Alex Atwell.
Fullet Calls Game
Week 5 was a thriller between the Portland Raiders and the Lakewood Vikings. This was a game that you couldn’t take your eyes off of, and the fans showed up. Covering this game was truly a pleasure, as it felt like a playoff-like atmosphere. Both schools’ student sections were on their feet and loud for all four quarters. Lakewood had the first possession of the game and was forced to punt. Not too long after, Portland was also forced to punt.
Raiders Pile it on in Week 4
A rivalry was renewed this past Friday night as the Portland Raiders took on the Ionia Bulldogs, one year after Ionia forfeited the game. To call this game a rivalry isn’t very fitting, as the Raiders dominated on both sides of the ball for all four quarters. The Bulldogs started off the first quarter with a completed pass that appeared to be an attempt at a hook-and-ladder play, which ultimately turned into a turnover early in the game.
Spenski and the Raiders speed past Olivet
Friday night was a much-anticipated matchup between the Portland Raiders and the Olivet Eagles. The game started with a memorial, as yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on 9/11. It started with two bugle players who did an amazing job playing “Taps,” followed by a moment of silence for the lives that were lost on 9/11. There was also a group of local first responders lined up by our nation’s stars and stripes for the national anthem.
Portland tops Sexton in Home Opener 29-13
John Gilroy 2 minutes ago 1 min read The stadium filled up quickly with football-hungry fans this past Thursday night as the town of Portland was ecstatic for some Portland Raiders football. Portland took on league opponent Sexton early in the first quarter, but the Raiders struggled to open anything up offensively. It appeared that Sexton’s defensive line had their number.
2026 Portland Varsity Football Season Preview
Ladies and gentleman, Portland Raiders Football is back! The Raiders took the field for their first day of two a day practices Monday, August 10th. Last season the Raiders finished the season 11-1 overall, finishing 9-0 in the regular season and 7-0 in the CAAC White winning the conference title. I had the opportunity to go out to practice and early on the guys were already looking sharp and ready to go. I also had the opportunity to speak with Portland's Head Coach John Novara.
Allison DeGroot named as PHS Varsity Volleyball Head Coach

Research in context Several Australian studies have reviewed hospital costs for discrete admission categories, including sports injuries or respiratory conditions, over ten-year periods. However, there has been no systematic review that has synthesised both direct and indirect costs for the child and family.
Disability workforce and the NDIS planning process in regional, rural and remote regions of Australia: Scoping review
Abstract Background The Australian geographically rural and remote disability workforce has historically demonstrated difficulties to keep up with the demand for quality services and supports for people with disability. In 2013, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was launched to provide individualised disability support packages to meet people's needs. To receive funding, people with disability are required to develop a NDIS plan.

The NDIS at ten years: designing an equitable scheme for the next decade
As the NDIS turns ten, we must make changes to improve scheme equity The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was created to provide reasonable and necessary supports for people with disability under the age of 65 years to live an included and meaningful life on an equal basis with other Australians. The mechanism for this is individualised support plans underpinned by personal budgets that are spent on services purchased from a social care market.
Marc-Andre Fleury away from Wild for personal reasons
At the time of this writing, the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks are both at the bottom portion of the NHL standings. As a result, they both will be among the league’s most notable sellers at the 2023 Trade Deadline. Players like Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Max Domi have been getting a lot of buzz as trade candidates from the Blackhawks, while Timo Meier, Erik Karlsson, and James Reimer are in the rumor mill from San Jose.
Arizona Coyotes Recall Ivan Prosvetov
The Arizona Coyotes announced this afternoon that goaltender Ivan Prosvetov has been recalled from the Tucson Roadrunners. No corresponding move has been made, however the team did add that fellow netminder Connor Ingram is out tonight due to an undisclosed illness. Prosvetov will likely be the backup tonight when the Coyotes host the Pittsburgh Penguins, PHNX Sports Craig Morgan tweeting will get the start.
Marc-Andre Fleury Away From Minnesota Wild For Personal Reasons Original
The Minnesota Wild are certainly thankful Filip Gustavsson is feeling healthy enough to play once again, as they’ll be down a separate netminder. According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to be away from the team at least for one game due to personal reasons. , who was recalled due to Gustavsson’s illness, is still with the team to backup Gustavsson. It’s unclear what the issue is for Fleury, however as Russo details, it appears to stem back as far as New Year’s Eve.
West Notes: McDonagh, Guenther, Gustavsson
Amid their up-and-down season on and off the ice thus far, eight points out of a playoff spot coming into today, unable to extend Bo Horvat, and listing only Elias Pettersson as “untouchable,” it appears the Vancouver Canucks need to start setting their eyes on the future. Part of that future is likely with Pettersson, as well as Quinn Hughes, Thatcher Demko, and the recently-extended J.T. Miller, but will also come with their young prospects.
Detroit Red Wings Assign Elmer Soderblom To AHL
Detroit Red Wings Assign Elmer Soderblom To AHL January 8, 2023 at 12:20 pm CDT | by John Gilroy Leave a Comment The Detroit Red Wings announced this afternoon that they’ve assigned rookie forward Elmer Soderblom to the Grand Rapids Griffins, their AHL affiliate. No corresponding move was announced. This will be Soderblom’s second stint with the Griffins this season. More to come.
Morning Notes: Tinordi, Kane, Boldy, Brassard
Things might not be going so well on the ice for the Chicago Blackhawks this season and while falling down the standings might be the ideal situation for now, the team does still need to ice a healthy lineup for several reasons. For one, the team will need to assure its prime trade assets, such as Patrick Kane, are healthy in order for the team to trade them and maximize their return.
Golden Knights to activate forward Jack Eichel
NHL insider reveals how Connor Bedard could affect trade-deadline strategies As the calendar turns to 2023 and teams approach the halfway mark in their seasons, focus starts to shift toward the league’s trade deadline, set for March 3. That might feel far away, and in terms of a team’s season it is, but in reality it’s just two months away.
Vegas Golden Knights To Activate Jack Eichel
Though the team has not formally announced anything just yet, it appears the Vegas Golden Knights have activated forward Jack Eichel off of IR, says Danny Webster of The Las Vegas Sun. A closer look at the team’s roster on their website shows Eichel is listed as healthy, and forward Byron Froese as well as defenseman Kaedan Korczak and Brayden Pachal are no longer listed on the roster.
Evening Notes: Kirkland, Schmaltz, Johnson
After recalling him back on December 28th on an emergency basis, it appears the Anaheim Ducks have sent forward Justin Kirkland back to the AHL, according to CapFriendly. This had been Kirkland’s second emergency recall in as many weeks, however it did afford him the opportunity to make his NHL debut.
Latest On The Trade Market Original
As the calendar turns to 2023 and teams approach the halfway mark in their seasons, focus starts to shift towards the league’s trade deadline, set for March 3rd. That might feel far away, and in terms of a team’s season it is, but in reality it’s just two months away.
Evening Notes: Guhle, Tarasenko, Simek, Maple Leafs
After a tough 9-2 loss today at the hands of the Washington Capitals, the Montreal Canadiens received some more bad news. Rookie defenseman Kaiden Guhle, who missed today’s game with a lower-body injury, has already been ruled out of Tuesday’s game in Nashville against the Predators, the team says. Guhle will be reevaluated when the team returns to Montreal after the Tuesday contest. The 20-year-old was injured during the third period of Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers.
Snapshots: Nedeljkovic, Draisaitl, Latimer, AHL Trade
Not too many players receive Calder Trophy votes in two separate seasons. Detroit Red Wings goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic is one of those players. The former Carolina Hurricanes netminder lead an impressive rookie campaign down south before a surprising trade to the Red Wings that summer. Since the trade though, Nedeljkovic has struggled to adjust, slipping to a 3.31 goals-against average and .901 save-percentage.
Evening Notes: Canucks, Canadiens, Nosek
Realistically, it’s not too late for the Vancouver Canucks to still turn their season around. Coming into tonight, the team has 35 points through 34 games, out of the playoffs, but not so far that they can’t make the jump. If they want to do that though, one thing they’ll need is a healthy Thatcher Demko, and the sooner, the better with that. Demko was injured back on December 1st and originally the Canucks projected a six-week absence for their goaltender.
Arizona Coyotes Loan Liam Kirk To Finland’s Jukurit
Earlier this afternoon, the Atlanta Gladiators, the ECHL affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes and AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners, caused a bit of a stir when they announced forward Liam Kirk had been recalled by the Coyotes. Though Kirk had been off to a strong start with the Gladiators, registering 11 points in 15 games thus far, a recall by Arizona appeared surprising, given he’s played just one game at the AHL level this season and just eight a season ago.
AHL Shuffle: 12/27/22
With the NHL’s roster freeze coming to an end today, a number of teams made immediate call-ups after sending a number of players, even some of their regulars, down to the AHL for salary cap purposes before the break. While most of those recalls were formally announced by their teams today, a few players appear to have been recalled, absent an announcement. According to the AHL’s Transactions page, the following players have been recalled from the AHL by their NHL squads.
Evening Notes: Dermott, Zaitsev, Duchene
There’s a few things the Vancouver Canucks could use right now to help turn their season, and even with the addition of Ethan Bear, another defenseman would be among those needs. One defenseman the team has been without all season, Travis Dermott, appeared fairly close to returning, having been sent to the Abbotsford Canucks, Vancouver’s AHL affiliate, for a conditioning loan.

Mitch Marner As special as Marner’s 23-game point streak was for both player and team, it represented something just as important to Toronto’s season: consistency.
Evening Notes: Kane, Motte, Chartier, Ovechkin
Earlier today, The Athletic’s Mark Lazerus wrote a piece comparing and contrasting the position the Chicago Blackhawks are in as compared to the Nashville Predators. Lazerus advocated that Chicago’s position, in the depths of a full-scale rebuild, was more enviable than the Predators, who have several large contracts on the books for years to come, preventing them from building on it, while the team’s core hasn’t had much playoff success.

Columbus Blue Jackets Announce Several Roster Moves
Columbus Blue Jackets Announce Several Roster Moves December 22, 2022 at 5:42 pm CDT | by John Gilroy Leave a Comment The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced a series of roster moves this evening. Defenseman Adam Boqvist and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo have both been activated off of IR. In order to create the roster space for both players, the team has placed forward Cole Sillinger on IR and assigned goaltender Jet Greaves to the Cleveland Monsters, their AHL affiliate.
Evening Notes: White, Subban, Chinakhov
The Anaheim Ducks announced earlier this evening that defenseman Colton White has been sent to the San Diego Gulls, their AHL affiliate, for a conditioning loan. Unlike most conditioning loans in the minors where the player is either too young to be sent to the AHL otherwise (think Shane Wright and Brandt Clarke recently) or where the player is coming off injury, the 25-year-old White is AHL eligible and has been playing, suiting up as recently as Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
