Abstract Musculoskeletal diseases are a major health burden. Development of bone-active therapies has been hindered by limited understanding of the cells and genes that regulate the skeleton. We exploited the value of cross-species analysis and developed single-cell methodologies in skeletal tissues to define the critical endosteal compartment that regulates bone turnover.

New Orleans Artist Carlos Lopez and His Oyster Paintings

“Why, then the world’s mine oyster.” Shakespeare said this first in “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” New Orleans artist Carlos Lopez has made the oyster his world, too, not in prose but in his large and lustrous oil paintings of the not-so-simple oyster shell. Lopez’s paintings of the shucked shells of the locally popular bivalves appear as though he dipped his brush in a pool of luminescent mother of pearl and brushed in bright and polychromatic fluid strokes across the canvas.

Oil bears bet Hormuz crisis is mostly over

7 June 2026 Investors have cut their position in Brent again to the lowest for eighteen weeks amid increasing confidence at least some oil exports will resume through the Strait of Hormuz despite an increasingly fragile ceasefire. The United States has begun to encourage some tankers to transit the Strait by offering air cover and attacking shore-based radars, missile batteries and drone launch sites on Iran’s side of the waterway.
