Giving the President Tax Immunity Would Be Illegal and Unjust Original
An immunity order signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche this spring purported to grant tax (and other immunity) to President Donald Trump and a broad swath of unnamed family members, businesses, and associates — presumably to curry political favors. Congress must quickly address this malfeasance. We believe that this purported grant of immunity was issued in violation of Section 7217 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Trump just fired 6,700 I.R.S. workers in the middle of tax season. That's a huge mistake.
If you were to ask the top chief executives in the world to name the best strategy to attack waste in their organizations and balance the books, there is one answer you would be very, very unlikely to hear: Take an ax to accounts receivable, the part of an organization responsible for collecting revenue.

Op-ed: Biden needs to mount a full-on crisis response to rebuild the IRS Original
The authors are former commissioners of the IRS. The IRS is in crisis. Geoffrey Chaucer said 632 years ago that curses come back to haunt their originator, just as birds come back to their own nest. He didn’t realize it at the time, but he correctly predicted that years of starving the Internal Revenue Service of funds would create a deep level of dysfunction that is a curse on millions of honest taxpayers.

The Response to the Y2K Challenge Offers Lessons for the Pandemic
The world faced a seemingly insurmountable technology challenge in the late 1990s that threatened to disrupt civilization. Addressing this required mobilizing a vast response effort, not unlike what we are facing today with the COVID-19 pandemic. The year 2000 challenge, known as Y2K, was easy to describe but not as simple to solve.

House GOP gives election-year airing to IRS gripes
WASHINGTON – Republicans gave an election-year airing to their complaints about IRS chief John Koskinen Tuesday, telling a GOP-run House committee that he should be impeached for lying to lawmakers and destroying evidence. “Mr. Koskinen was sent to the IRS to clean it up but it’s gotten worse,” Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told the House Judiciary Committee, pressing a long-shot effort he’s led since last year to remove the agency’s commissioner.
House GOP chairman seeks to censure IRS head
WASHINGTON – The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has introduced a resolution to censure IRS Commissioner John Koskinen. Rep. Jason Chaffetz said the resolution seeks Koskinen’s resignation or removal, as well as the forfeiture of his pension. The Utah Republican accuses Koskinen of misconduct and says he sees censure as a preliminary step toward impeachment.
