NMR of Fully and Partially 13 C-Enriched Biomass Enhances Pendent Group Structural Characterization Click to copy article link Article link copied!
To obtain useful NMR spectra from fully- 13 C-labeled materials, we evaluated pulse experiments that are either not encumbered by the 13 C– 13 C complications, or that exploit the 13 C-enrichment and the 13 C– 13 C coupling.
A biosynthetic gene cluster for three post-chorismate pathways in Arabidopsis - Nature Plants
Abstract Chorismate is a branch-point metabolite in the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids, vitamins, antibiotics and various other aromatic products in bacteria, fungi and plants. Although 13 chorismate-utilizing enzymes have been identified in bacteria, only 6 have been described in plants, where an estimated 30% of all photosynthetically fixed carbon passes through chorismate.
Pd/C promotes C–H bond activation and oxidation of p-hydroxybenzoate during hydrogenolysis of poplar - Nature Communications
Abstract Hydrogenolysis of lignin generates a portfolio of products, the yields of which are generally calculated using a subset of phenolic monomers that are dependent on the lignin composition, product distribution, and analytical technique. Some lignins are naturally γ-acylated; poplar lignins, for example, have p-hydroxybenzoate groups on 1–15% of their syringyl subunits.

Cycling ferulate in monocot cell walls - Nature Plants
Cell walls in grasses contain arabinoxylan polysaccharides decorated with ferulate groups but the mechanism by which the ferulate is attached to arabinoxylans has long remained unknown. A new study shows that ferulate is transferred to arabinoxylan from a 3,6-di-O-feruloyl sucrose intermediate formed in a sucrose ferulate cycle.
Selective lignin arylation for biomass fractionation and benign bisphenols - Nature
Abstract Lignocellulose is mainly composed of hydrophobic lignin and hydrophilic polysaccharide polymers, contributing to an indispensable carbon resource for green biorefineries1,2. When chemically treated, lignin is compromised owing to detrimental intra- and intermolecular crosslinking that hampers downstream process3,4. The current valorization paradigms aim to avoid the formation of new C–C bonds, referred to as condensation, by blocking or stabilizing the vulnerable moieties of lignin5,6,7.
Quantification of native lignin structural features with gel‐phase 2D‐HSQC0 reveals lignin structural changes during extraction

Lignin deconstruction by anaerobic fungi - Nature Microbiology
Abstract Lignocellulose forms plant cell walls, and its three constituent polymers, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin, represent the largest renewable organic carbon pool in the terrestrial biosphere. Insights into biological lignocellulose deconstruction inform understandings of global carbon sequestration dynamics and provide inspiration for biotechnologies seeking to address the current climate crisis by producing renewable chemicals from plant biomass.
The flying spider-monkey tree fern genome provides insights into fern evolution and arborescence - Nature Plants
Abstract To date, little is known about the evolution of fern genomes, with only two small genomes published from the heterosporous Salviniales. Here we assembled the genome of Alsophila spinulosa, known as the flying spider-monkey tree fern, onto 69 pseudochromosomes. The remarkable preservation of synteny, despite resulting from an ancient whole-genome duplication over 100 million years ago, is unprecedented in plants and probably speaks to the uniqueness of tree ferns.
Autonomy of the Second Sex
"No one is more arrogant towards women, more aggressive or scornful, than the man who is anxious about his virility " Simone de Beauvoir : The Second Sex 'A husband's licentious disposition disregarding the autonomy of the wife is a marital rape' is the classic observation made by a Division Bench of the High Court of Kerala in a divorce proceeding where the court was pleased to grant a divorce to the wife ( XXX v. XXX, Mat. Appel no.
The Distinction Between Section 7 Of The POCSO Act And Section 354 Of IPC
Correctness of the Bombay High Court judgment ( Nagpur Bench) in Satheesh Vs State of Maharashtra in Criminal Appeal 161/ 2020 decided on 19.01.2021 is highly doubted. The court held that touching a child over her clothes will not attract an offence under the POCSO Act. At the same time it held that it attracts an offence under 354 IPC and convicted the accused thereunder for a period of 1 year.
Why Bail Matters: An Introspection Of Section 7 Of Muslim Women (Protection Of Rights On Marriage) Act 2019
The time has again come to reiterate the famous quote of Justice Felix Frankfurter who through McNabb v. United States stated that "The history of liberty has largely been the history of the observance of procedural safeguards" Infact the recent Bombay HC order rejecting the anticipatory bail in Ebrahim Mohd. Why do Catholics support Trump when he displays such anti-Christian values?
John Ralph I am increasingly dismayed by the number of Christians who support President Trump. At the March for Life earlier this year, most of those participating were not only “pro-life,” but were demonstrably pro-Trump. I have heard many of my fellow Catholics, including the Archbishop of New York, praise Mr. Trump’s supposedly pro-religious values. The Archbishop even gave the opening prayer at Trump’s nominating convention last week.

Commentary: Why should I continue to support the Catholic Church?
A Catholic Church in Illinois (Ted Slowik / Daily Southtown) I have become an angry Catholic. While I have been a faithful, life-long member of my church, and a long-time parishioner within the Archdiocese of Baltimore, I don't think I could get any more cynical about my church's leadership. Like a lot of Catholics, I've been waiting for church leaders to do something meaningful in response to the sexual abuse crisis.
