What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a summer intern at the Rensselaer Republican.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

I used a typewriter to write papers in high school and college -- before I had access to word processors. I loved how they smelled.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It's a calling - no doubt. There's nothing like being the first to tell a story.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Get names right -- every time.

What's your favorite drink?

Diet Coke during the day. Something a little stronger in the evening.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

When I'm not working, I'm usually having fun with my family.
