Teenage Years by John Scott
A Powerful Reflection on Adolescence and the Impact of Neglect Teenage years are often a time of self-discovery, growth, and challenges. But what happens when the guiding presence of parental support is absent? In Teenage Years, author John Scott sheds light on the emotional struggles of teenagers who grow up feeling ignored, unheard, and left to navigate life's uncertainties on their own.
The rising tide of litigation
Abstract Innocence or otherwise is largely defined by successive experiences. Early on in life, the hope is that one’s innocence will be rapidly lost. Such is not the case, Professor Sir John Scott explains. Article Extract As the rising tide of litigation and complaints against doctors commenced, many of us who had been established practitioners for a couple of decades or more assumed we had ‘seen and heard it all’.

Ordeal - Jamestown Gazette
Contributing Writer Rev. Dr. Scott D. Hannon St. John Lutheran Church, Amherst, NY Life is filled with ordeals. In the past week we heard about the ordeal caused by terror. We wrestled with the ordeal caused by potential collusion and corruption. We continued to watch people recover from the ordeal caused by hurricanes and other natural disasters. REVIEW: “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” is more than just another Marvel success
This review contains spoilers. Each time I find myself in a theater gearing up for Marvel’s newest offering, I can’t help but prepare for the worst. As the lights dim and that iconic Marvel opening plays, I shield my eyes from the screen, prepping myself for the impossible: a disappointing Marvel movie. But just from the first few minutes of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,'' I quickly realized that Marvel has another hit on their hands.
Poem Of The Week: 'Those Winter Sundays' By Robert Hayden (1913-1980)
arts Those Winter Sundays Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. When the rooms were warm, he’d call, and slowly I would rise and dress, fearing the chronic angers of that house, Speaking indifferently to him, who had driven out the cold and polished my good shoes as well.

Faith Matters: Worry
Contributing Writer Rev. Dr. Scott D. Hannon St. John Lutheran Church, Amherst, NY I had anxiety dreams last night. Zombies had taken over the world and I was on the run with Kate and Molly. I woke up nervous and sweaty. I know it was only a dream. I know there are no zombies (…yet). I still couldn’t fall back asleep. I wish this were an isolated incident, but the truth is I worry sometimes.
More support for the big bang
01 March 1972 • page 17 Two questions confront those who would interpret recent measurements of the far‐infrared background radiation in the night sky. The first is: Are the data compatible with what would be expected from a blackbody cosmic background, left over from a “big‐bang” origin of the universe? And if so, what is the equivalent temperature of the blackbody?
Rage Against Reason - The American Scholar
Flickr/marianone As with inaugurations past, yesterday’s inauguration of President Joe Biden was a ceremony that looked to the future, marking the start of a new era. Yet it was impossible not to think about the auguries—a word that derives from the same Latin root as inauguration—surrounding this event. That the ceremony took place in a city scarred by an attempted insurrection two weeks earlier and now resembling a military compound suggests the omens are grim.
Faith Matters: "Olds Year Night"
Contributing Writer Rev. Dr. Scott D. Hannon St. John Lutheran Church, Amherst, NY When I was 18 years old, I spent New Year’s Eve in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Before you get the wrong idea, I wasn’t on vacation. Some friends and I signed up to lead a day camp for school age children over their holiday break. We slept on cots in a muggy church fellowship hall. We didn’t have a shower, so we tied a hose to a tree branch and took turns jetting in and out of the freezing stream.
From Post-Passover to Peach Tree | Picture Books Spotlight
Dreidel-spinning llamas, locating the right flour for a holiday treat, and getting just the right haircut for an event remind readers that are so many festivals and so many reasons to celebrate, all year around. Move over turkeys, and step aside, Christmas trees. This is not your typical holiday round-up: We’ve unearthed a holiday with haircuts, what happens after Passover, and llamas spinning dreidels.
Faith Matters: Worry
Contributing Writer Rev. Dr. Scott D. Hannon St. John Lutheran Church, Amherst, NY I had dreams last night. Zombies had taken over the world and I was on the run with my family. I woke up nervous and sweaty. I know it was only a dream. I know there are no zombies (…yet). I still couldn’t fall back asleep. I wish this were an isolated incident, but the truth is I worry sometimes. I didn’t use to, but somewhere between caring for my family and life the part of my brain that worries was awakened.
NEW PRODUCTS, OCTOBER 2020
As the temperatures start to dip and leaves begin to turn, we look forward to spending time camping, hiking, hunting and pursuing other outdoor fun. Evenings are seemingly tailor-made for laughing around campfires and noshing on s’mores. At the same time, we’re in the last stages of winter prep, getting the house and outbuildings in order and finishing up those last few projects. Believe it or not, it won’t be long before we’re putting up holiday decorations.
READY FOR ANYTHING
Great Gear You Can Use In Multiple Scenarios We live in “interesting” times, to put it nicely. Last year’s terror attacks, extreme weather events and angry mobs woke up a lot of people to the increasingly common realization that a quiet life is not something we can take for granted. Survival situations weren’t contained within urban or coastal areas, further emphasizing the probability that life-threatening circumstances could occur anywhere at any time.
Faith Matters: Great Ordeals
What an ordeal. What a great ordeal. Coronavirus. Political instability. Economic uncertainty. Stressed institutions and systems. Unemployment. Anxious and depressed people. Divorce. Cancer. Racism. Riots. Isolation. Separation. Estrangement. Death. What an ordeal. What a great ordeal. Of course, we are hardly the first people to go through such trying or difficult times. From the cradle of Christianity our forbearers have endured one great ordeal after another.
This Is Your Time
Gr 5 Up–Ruby Bridges displayed courage and resilience when chosen to integrate New Orleans’s all-white public school system in 1960 at the age of six. She also explains what it was like for her father to witness his young daughter battle adversity and his own struggles.
Avoid The Echo Chamber: Build Diverse Teams
It is election season, and with it comes all of the dreaded debates and political ads that make many people cringe. Continuously having your opinions challenged can be stressful, and you may find yourself increasingly flocking toward like-minded people. You may start to get more use out of your unfollow button on social media as users make their previously hidden political stances known. You might also find yourself reading articles or watching the news stations that you agree with.
Faith Matters: Get Behind Jesus
Contributing Writer Rev. Dr. Scott D. Hannon St. John Lutheran Church, Amherst, NY Raise your hand if you’ve ever tried to tell God what to do… me too. I think many of us have. We see a problem and tell God to help. We see a need and we expect God to act. We encounter adversity, pain, or a setback, and we hope God will deliver or get busy… and if God doesn’t seem active enough, we often pray for that divine intervention.

Column: Photographing morning yoga on the Bailey's Wood Trail - The Daily Mississippian
Stepping out of my car, the first thing I noticed was how empty the museum parking lot was. Only two other cars had parked at the Bailey Woods trail head. I was worried. My editor had told me of the yoga class usually held in the museum was instead being held on the trail for the summer, but I admit I expected more people. Granted, it was 8:00 on a Monday morning. I myself am naturally averse to any hour of the morning, so I wasn’t too surprised.

Cwesi Oteng Releases Two Singles Of His New Album
The entire sound/atmosphere of Ghanaian contemporary gospel music changed when we woke up one morning, turned on our radio sets and heard Cwesi Oteng and Flo Riva's "But for your Mercy". Cwesi Oteng's "Mercy Project" for me is a landmark in Ghanaian Contemporary Gospel Music. Think about Fusion and Flo Riva.

Black Dawn's BDR-556-3GLW
There are a lot of ARs on the market right now, but they are far from equal, and it is always a pleasure to find one done right. Black Dawn‘s new BDR-556-3GLW, a lightweight AR built for 3-Gun matches, certainly qualifies as a high-quality, purpose-built rifle that delivers the goods without breaking the bank. When it comes to 3-Gun rifles, weight and reliability are two major considerations.
His family lost a treasure, but downtown gained a big new project
It was a little slice of Birmingham cultural and architectural history. If you’re of a certain age (that is, old) you may remember going to Waite’s after church on Sunday and having the egg salad sandwich or eclairs. You may also remember the strange foods over in the small and dusty grocery section, my most clear memory being the tins of chocolate covered ants from South America.
Tell county commissioners you prefer an all-gravity plan for sewer hook-up; it could mean big savings

As a result, the Athens County Commissioners have recently authorized HDR Engineering to take an existing project concept to a 60 percent design-completion stage. This design work is currently being done, and now is the time for meaningful public input. The project design should solely focus on an all-gravity concept. Currently it does not.
John Scott: Choose Measure 1, kick over-regulation to the curb
In 1958, while hauling seed to Devils Lake from Gilby, N.D., I vividly remember the countless farms that dotted the countryside—the farms that kept so many families bustling with crops and livestock.Today, that same drive offers fewer farms than a five-mile strip in the 1950s would warrant. And it's not going to get better. Our saving grace might very well be Measure 1, which North Dakotans will have the opportunity to support on Tuesday. For years, our farms have been controlled by...
Tractor-Chasing Lawyers Stuff Their Own Pockets at the Expense of Ag Innovation | MILK | Agweb.com
You’ve heard of ambulance-chasing lawyers who seem to turn up at accident scenes whenever they think they can convert a fender-bender into a contingency fee. Get ready to meet the tractor-chasers: a gang of attorneys on the hunt for clients in corn country. They’re trying to find farmers who will join a lawsuit against a seed technology company. It’s a rotten bargain that makes vague promises about a possible payoff but instead threatens the future of agriculture. Farmers should reject it.
