From Templates to Technical Structuring: James Russell on Greater China, Succession and Hong Kong’s Family Office Opportunity
Greater scrutiny of offshore wealth is changing the way families across Greater China approach trusts, succession and the governance of international assets. Restrictions on capital leaving mainland China, the growing use of tax transparency data and a rise in disputes involving the next generation are increasing the risks attached to structures established without sufficient planning or substance.
Data, Intelligence and Scale: Srutaban Mukhopadhyay on Valuefy’s Wealth Technology Proposition
India’s wealth management industry is expanding faster than its supply of experienced advisers, increasing the pressure on financial institutions to improve productivity without compromising service quality. At the same time, portfolios are becoming more complex as investors gain access to private markets, international assets and a wider range of investment structures.
Insurance Moves to the Centre of the Wealth Conversation - The HNW Insurance Summit Singapore
Something fundamental is changing in the way Asia's wealthiest families think about life insurance. Once treated as a protection product to be bought and filed away, it has moved to the centre of the most serious conversations in private wealth - deployed alongside trusts, holding companies and family office structures to solve some of the hardest problems wealthy families face: succession, liquidity, estate equalisation, and tax-compliant transfer across borders and generations.
From Disclosure to Prevention: John Shoemaker on US Tax Compliance, Technology and Pre-Immigration Planning
International private clients are entering a more demanding tax environment. They have access to far more information than in the past, but the volume and speed of that information can make it harder to distinguish meaningful developments from noise. At the same time, tax authorities are becoming better equipped to analyse cross-border data and identify inconsistencies.
Overcoming the Challenges of Paint Profitability
When I discuss paint profitability with collision center owners and managers, they often compare purchases to reimbursements to calculate profits. As I coach them, I explain that it is a little more complicated than that, as there are many factors involved that drive costs.
The Intricacies of Damage Appraisal
Creating a damage appraisal involves more than simply going through your estimating database to identify damaged parts and selecting repair, replace, align, diagnosis, refinish or sublet. While you need those categories, you also need to know which one to select to describe the “who, what, where, why and how” the repairs should be performed. To help bring some clarity to this, I am going to recap a few of my previous ABRN articles on damage appraisal.
Understanding the Puzzle Pieces of a Sales Goal for Collision Repair
I have had several conversations with customers about how they struggle to reach their “number.” In these discussions, they showed how much they missed their monthly goal and expressed that the numbers on the bottom line were unexpected because they were busy. It is very easy to stay busy and still not hit your target due to the many things that go into a monthly sales goal. When I work with a shop, I like to look at several pieces of the puzzle, beginning with Sales per Repair Order (RO).
How to Prepare for OEM Certification
As I work with customers pursuing OEM certifications, I often leave them with homework after my first visit. The first thing I ask them to do is review the Collision Industry Conference (CIC) Collision Repair Provider Definition and complete a self-evaluation for their business. This helps them determine if they are ready for OEM certification.
Preserving Intergenerational Wealth: Views from Investment Migration Expert Dominic Volek
Dominic Volek, Group Head of Private Clients at Henley & Partners, believes that for wealthy clients and their families, the world truly can be their oyster. He ardently advocates that those who can afford to do so should acquire residence or citizenship in alternative jurisdictions, not just for the benefits it brings for the immediate or near future, but also for the decades, even centuries, ahead.

The Accidental US Taxpayer - How Many Non-American HNW FAANG Investors are Guaranteed to Lose up to 40%
The Nasdaq 100 is making all-time highs – led in part by the usual team of FAANG stocks – Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google (but do not forget the rest, and apologies to Bill Gates!). Many high-net-worth investors today have made significant fortunes by sticking to a buy and hold strategy in the US tech sector with the new focus on AI and the stocks that will benefit from this new paradigm.
The Need for Consistent Advice Amidst Constantly Evolving Global Tax and Residence Rules
Howard Bilton knows rather a lot about the ‘folly’ of wealthy private clients not making the right decisions and taking the right steps around wealth and estate planning and structuring. Wearing his professional hat, he is Chairman and Founder of wealth and structuring advisory The Sovereign Group. And wearing his sun hat, he presides over the grapes of his own vineyard in the Alentejo in Portugal, which produces his ‘Howard’s Folly’ wines.
Navigating Asia's Private Client Advisory Challenges and Opportunities in 2024 with Butler Snow's John Shoemaker
As we approach 2024, there are a number of changes on the horizon to be navigated by Asia's private client advisory community. John Shoemaker, Registered Foreign Lawyer at Butler Snow, took the time to speak with Hubbis to explore a number of the changes pinging most loudly on his radar, such as the US Corporate Transparency Act, and local KYC and AML procedures in Singapore.
Are you being reimbursed for all waste disposal?
I was in a discussion the other day about expenses that led to reviewing hazardous waste disposal costs. The shop owner was concerned about how much that expense had risen and was eating at profits. I explained that they should be charging for waste disposal, as it is billable as part of the claim. Any expense you incur during a collision repair is directly linked to the insurance claim and is reimbursable.
How the elite compete
As national multi-store operators (MSOs) continue to grow in most markets, it will be the elite independent repairers that survive in the consolidator environment. By elite, I mean those shops that have taken the steps to become an OEM-certified repair facility. With national MSO consolidation reaching the 50-percent market penetration mark, I feel that being OEM-certified will give collision repair centers a much-needed edge.
The importance of procedures and repair statements
It's happened more than once that I have come across a shop who had already cut into a vehicle and was deep into the repair before they asked for advice on how to weld or repair something. My response is, “Where are your procedures for this vehicle?” I'm then often met with a blank stare, followed by a question of what a procedure even is.

What is feather, prime, and block?
So, what is this process called feather, prime and block? It seems that it is always a point of contention between third-party payers and the repair facility, with the biggest discussion surrounding the need and who should be doing it. I hope that throughout this article I can offer some clarification by providing facts and eliminating opinions.

Embracing the Horizon: Guiding Private Clients Beyond the ‘Crosses’ and Trends
In the ever-changing landscape of the private wealth management industry, one of the most significant challenges faced by wealth managers is guiding their clients beyond the fixation on short-term market excitement, often fuelled by the fear of 'death cross' and the proverbial hunt for 'golden cross' concepts. While these technical indicators have their place in trading circles, the pursuit of quick gains can distract investors from a deeper understanding of long-term wealth solutions.
