Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big sports fan, and I spend a lot of time at games around South Dakota.

OPINION: The SAVE America Act Is Just Common Sense
If you’ve tuned into the United States Senate lately, you may have seen senators engaged in a robust debate over an important piece of legislation: the SAVE America Act. This bill is about as common sense as they come. It would require proof of citizenship and a photo ID to vote and protect young people from the impacts of radical gender ideology. The majority of Americans agree with these commonsense policies.

How the Big, Beautiful Bill Threw Gun Owners and Second Amendment Advocates Under the Bus
The House and Senate versions of the reconciliation bill will have to be themselves merged and reconciled, but at least in the senate, gun owners have been thrown under the bus. It begins with the House version of the bill, which not only repeals the $200 tax stamp for suppressors but also removes them entirely from the NFA. We had to push very hard to get this through committee and the house. On to the senate.

The Senate will overturn California’s electric vehicle mandate
Even in an institution as storied as the U.S. Senate, issues arise that have not been previously litigated, and a unique question is posed to this body. Such is the case of the California Clean Air Act waivers, which aim to implement a stringent electric vehicle mandate that would affect not just the state of California but the whole country. There is nothing novel about how to proceed with the rules an agency presents to Congress.
The fight to save Ellsworth | Sen. John Thune
On May 13, 2005, the U.S. Department of Defense announced it was recommending South Dakota’s Ellsworth Air Force Base for closure. It was a gut punch for South Dakota. Ellsworth has been a point of pride in our state since World War II. Losing the base would have been devastating to western South Dakota and a significant loss for America’s national security. So, we set out to save it. In May 2005, I was a freshman senator just five months on the job.

Supporting Farmers and Ranchers
By John Thune There’s hardly a corner of South Dakota where you won’t find a farm, ranch, or some other trace of our rich agricultural heritage – it’s the lifeblood of our state. Representing the hardworking South Dakotans who grow food and fuel and raise livestock is a responsibility I take seriously. So I value the conversations I have with producers as I travel around the state. Unfortunately, what I’m hearing from farmers and ranchers lately is not good.

Opinion | To Save the Senate Filibuster, Elect Republicans
Kamala Harris is giving voters whiplash. Her reversals on key policy positions have defined her presidential campaign. In 2017, then-Sen. Harris and I signed a bipartisan letter from 61 senators committing to defend the Senate’s legislative filibuster. We wanted to ensure “that this great American institution continues to serve as the world’s greatest deliberative body.” I stand by those words. Ms. Harris, unfortunately, does not.
