Cognitive Warfare Without a Map: Why Current Targeting Logic Fails in a Fast-Moving Information Ecosystem

Letter: Consider other national news outlets for content
Voice of America has decided to stop using material from the Associated Press (AP) and Reuters. As a reader who has thought for the past year that the large percentage of space allocated to AP is almost not worth reading, I suggest that Sheridan Press also consider looking for a better, more balanced international and national news provider. Might I suggest moving out of the left-most portion of the spectrum for our more conservative community.

The hidden rules of writing job ads that actually work
According to hiring expert Steven Smith, most organizations still use outdated job-posting strategies that severely limit their candidate pool. Smith, author of The Hiring Tree: Laws of Applicant Attraction, spoke at the 2024 HR Specialist Summit in September. While companies pour more money into recruitment and make minor tweaks to their approach, Smith says they’re missing fundamental shifts in how online job boards and candidates alike operate in today’s digital landscape.

Blast from the Past: Review of the Arctic Fox 996 Truck Camper
One of the things that makes Truck Camper Adventure different from the competition is our preference for owner reviews. This approach helps ensure an independent voice and that our reviews aren’t bought and paid for. The latest review comes from John Wilcox. In his review of the Arctic Fox 996, John extols the virtues of this venerable double-slide camper, that for some reason, is no longer being made by Northwood Manufacturing. We hope you enjoy it.

Tools of the trade: Karl Storz rigid endoscope
Estimated reading time: 2 minutes It’s a very useful piece of equipment and something that I find I’m using more and more. It can be used for a wide variety of procedures including assisted castropexies, cystotomies, cryptorchid castrations, and liver biopsies. It’s also handy for nasal scopes and cystoscope examinations of the bladder. It allows for desexing with smaller incisions, reduced pain and a much better recovery for the dogs.
US must not lag as China prepares for end to Ukraine war
China’s attention to the war in Ukraine continues to pick up steam. Beijing recently pledged its “extreme interest” in ending the war and proposed its 12-point “peace program” amid a flurry of diplomatic activity. Though the proposal is typically vague and light on details, it represents a capstone in China’s recent campaign to promote its “wisdom in global security.” Also read: China wins the mediation medal Of course, Beijing’s desired outcomes in Ukraine are greatly different from Washington’s.
Iran isn't worried about the US attacking it, but Biden has other ways to cut a deal with Tehran Original

The trend lines in US-Iran relations today make for grim reading in Washington.
Company-Specific ESG Adoption Pushes Leaders to Dig Deeper
The rise of company-specific materiality assessments will require companies to undertake substantial organizational and behavioral adjustments, reduce their reliance on standardized metrics, and incent investors to dig more deeply into the inner workings of individual portfolio companies. The emergence of ESG issues has generated a wholesale reevaluation of corporations’ so-called social compact.

Opinion: Where is backbone on Team Trump?
By John R. Wilcox Published 12:00 am EST, Sunday, November 8, 2020 There is an extremely important take-away from “Fit For Office,” (The New York Times Sunday Review, Oct. 18). However, this take-away requires thoughtful reflection about the individuals quoted. They were all insiders on the President’s “Team,” with the exception of Mary L.Trump, a niece. She is an insider, a niece and highly qualified, as a clinical psychologist, to professionally evaluate her uncle.

Unprotected devices can increase risk to the entire network. If a device is out of service, it is no longer receiving quality updates from Microsoft and may become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. A single exploited device can reveal other devices on a network, revealing otherwise secure information or spreading malware to other computers in the network.

LTSC: What is it, and when should it be used?
Update 7/15/2019: The content in this post applies to PC and laptop type devices converted to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC, and not devices purchased with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise pre-installed. Examples of the latter include kiosks, medical equipment, and digital signs, i.e. use cases where devices are commonly treated as a whole system and are, therefore, “upgraded” by building and validating a new system, turning off the old device, and replacing it with a new, certified device.

Windows 7 servicing stack updates: managing change and appreciating cumulative updates
For many of you managing a Windows 7 infrastructure today, monthly servicing is primarily about making sure that you are installing the latest security patches on your devices and staying current. To simplify the servicing process (in addition to complexity and cost), we aligned our Windows 7 servicing model—consisting of Monthly Rollups and Security-only updates—to the update model we use with Windows 10.
Windows 10 and the “disappearing” SAC-T
When we first released Windows 10 in July 2015, we tried to explain the process by which servicing worked in what became known as the Current Branch/Current Branch for Business, or CB/CBB. As part of a cross-functional team of authors who dedicated many, many hours to the creation of the initial documentation, we were very pleased and proud with the finished product.

Stakes too high to be complacent about cybersecurity
As reminders go, National Cyber Security Month, being observed for the 12th consecutive year this month, is a double-edged sword. It reminds us first that this is a dangerous world and there are bad actors out there. If you doubt that, consider what happened to a top computer security outfit not long ago. A single employee ignored established procedures and opened an email attachment from an unknown source. The result was the infiltration of malware that compromised the company’s principal product.
