County crews recently finished the $1.8 million first phase of Michelle Obama Park in south DeKalb. Called a “reimagining and revitalization” of Intrenchment Creek Park, the first phase includes paving a trailhead as part of a half-mile trail that connects to Gresham Park and expands access along the 10-mile South River Trail.
Video captured road-rage argument before deadly Dekalb County shooting
A camera recorded a confrontation that led to a fatal shooting on Fisher Trail in DeKalb County, according to an arrest warrant. The shooter, Parke Russell, 24, faces a charge of murder and remains in the DeKalb County Jail. The victim is identified as Omer Ahmadi, 42. A fundraising campaign for Russell’s legal expenses implies Russell was acting in self-defense.

Georgia debuts new 'I Voted' sticker for midterm elections
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office on Tuesday unveiled a newly designed “I Voted” sticker for voters ahead of the 2026 general election. 2028 Olympic torch relay to begin in Atlanta on journey to LA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The torch relay for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will begin in Atlanta, home of the last U.S. Summer Games in 1996, and travel through all 50 states, organizers announced Tuesday. The Olympic flame will be lit in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, before beginning its journey around the United States in spring 2028. The full route for the torch relay will be announced in 2027.

Kemp suspends Georgia gas tax as prices at the pump continue to soar
ATLANTA — For the third time this year, Gov. Brian Kemp ordered a suspension of Georgia’s fuel tax, as prices at the pump keep rising with no sign of relief. The 30-day suspension order, which Kemp signed Monday, goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and runs through Oct. 29. “Global markets remain unstable and are subjecting Georgians to unpredictable price shocks on basic goods and services,” said Kemp’s executive order, issued under his authority to declare a state of emergency.
