World Cup what to know: Round of 32 to be finalized after final 6 matches of group play

The World Cup knockout rounds are almost here. The field for the Round of 32 will be finalized on Saturday following more than two weeks of competition across three countries. While majority of the field is set, there are still some spots up for grabs with six group-stage matches remaining, leaving some teams jockeying for position and others fighting to advance. Still others find themselves on the bubble, relying on other teams to determine their World Cup fate. The knockout rounds begin Sunday.

Lawmakers from Georgia push ICE for answers on treatment of people with disabilities

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff and U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath of Georgia are urging the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to make sure people with disabilities who are in immigration detention get accommodations. In a letter to federal officials this week, they wrote they’ve heard reports of medical neglect in detention facilities. “These delays in, or denials of, medical care impact individuals with disabilities particularly acutely,” they wrote.

The Democratic National Committee is organizing hundreds of community events across the country this weekend in hopes of harnessing the same concerns about affordability that President Donald Trump capitalized on to return to the White House. The events include school supply giveaways, food bank drives, neighborhood door knockings and organizer trainings. “Everything costs too damn much under Donald Trump and the Republicans,” Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said in a statement.

Groups continue investigating Chattahoochee River fish kill

Weeks after the fish kill on the Chattahoochee River, the City of Atlanta, state and nonprofits are still researching the causes. The City of Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management Commissioner Greg Eyerly said on top of its own investigation, the city has hired an independent investigator to complete its own analysis. “We’ve been able to eliminate a couple of potential sources, and so it’s that process of elimination,” Eyerly said.

They were allegedly flying to help prisoners get high and to maybe escape, but now nine people, all but one from Macon, are behind bars themselves after federal agents arrested them in connection with delivering drugs, phones and weapons into prisons from above. The bust, announced Wednesday, involved a “vast alleged conspiracy using drones to smuggle contraband,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
