Introduction Depoliticisation refers to the “narrowing of the boundaries of democratic politics” (Flinders and Wood 2014:135) and when “institutions, policies and discourses foreclose or discourage participation in the political sphere” (Wood 2016:521). Wood traces the development of the term (ibid.) and its application that is increasingly central to understanding contemporary patterns of governance throughout advanced industrial democracies (Foster et al. 2014:226).
