Interview
How is social media changing news?
Social media has created a need-it-now society and has made it more difficult to fact check. Fiction sometimes reigns over fact in the news.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
As a journalist we have a moral obligation to present facts or to at least deny their existence.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
I like pitches to be informative and relevant to what I write about: wine and spirits.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Pen, paper, Oxford English Dictionary & Thesaurus, dram of whiskey, too many apps to mention and of course, Word.
Who do you wish followed you?
The New York Times and The Paris Review. Also: any publishing house interested in publishing creative books on wine.
Why did you become a journalist?
I didn't ask to become a journalist---the profession found me and made me an offer I couldn't refuse.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Read everything, especially books---particularly ones that are not in your field of work.
