When Emma Coburn lined up for the steeplechase at the LA Track Fest on the evening of May 23, it had been more than two years since she had raced her signature event — and even longer since she had finished one healthy. Coburn, 35, did not run any steeples in 2025 due to a nagging hamstring injury, and in her lone steeple of 2024, she broke her ankle landing in the water jump at the Shanghai Diamond League.

On Sunday in Morocco, Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi will run his first 800-meter race of 2026 at the Rabat Diamond League. After a fallow period to begin the decade, the men’s 800 has become one of the deepest, most competitive events in track & field. And Wanyonyi is the man leading the way. Wanyonyi, who is still just 21 years old, has already won Olympic and world titles. His personal best of 1:41.11 is tied for #2 all-time.

After two meets in China, the 2026 Diamond League season heads to Morocco this weekend for its only stop in Africa, kicking off a busy period on the circuit. Sunday’s meet in Rabat is the first in a stretch of four Diamond Leagues in 11 days, followed by Rome (June 4), Stockholm (June 7), and Oslo (June 10). And plenty of the sport’s biggest names will be in action. Among the highlights in Rabat: Olympic 400m champion Quincy Hall races for the first time in a year.
