Proteomic profile of faricimab-associated occlusive retinal vasculitis - Eye
Faricimab (Vabysmo®; Genentech) is a humanised monoclonal antibody that inhibits both VEGF-A and Ang-2 [1]. It is approved by the U.S. FDA for intravitreal injection (6 mg/0.05 mL) in the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
What to Look for in a Retina Fellowship
In my admittedly biased opinion, vitreoretinal surgery is one of the most exciting areas in all of ophthalmology—and perhaps even in all of medicine. Few fields have experienced such rapid surgical innovation and the translation of research from bench to bedside, resulting in remarkable impacts on patient care. Each year, many talented candidates apply to vitreoretinal surgery fellowship programs.

Mid-century modern masterpieces across America
Palm Springs is known as a hotbed for mid-century homes, and this one might just be the most famous. Completed in 1973, the dazzling 23,000-square-foot (7,010sqm) property was designed by iconic modernist architect John Lautner for the legendary comedian Bob Hope and his wife Dolores. The residence was the largest and most ambitious that Lautner ever designed, but according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, by the time it was finished, he actually no longer claimed it.

Experimental and on-sky demonstration of spectrally dispersed wavefront sensing using a photonic lantern
Adaptive optics (AO) systems are critical in any application where highly resolved imaging or beam control must be performed through a dynamic medium. Such applications include astronomy and free-space optical communications, where light propagates through the atmosphere, as well as medical microscopy and vision science, where light propagates through biological tissues.
THE NEW MTA SUBWAY MAP IS A WIN FOR NEW YORK.
Jonathan Lin · Follow 3 min read · -- Yesterday, the MTA revealed its first complete subway map redesign in nearly 50 years. This new version combines two very different design styles: Massimo Vignelli’s 1972 modernist, abstract map and Michael Hertz’s more realistic 1979 map that replaced it. The result is something New York hasn’t had in a long time — a map that’s both beautiful and easier to use. Let’s go back a bit.

THE JAGUAR REBRAND IS A GOOD THING.
When a brand is DYING, you have two choices in rebranding: a gentle evolution — where history and identity are refined — or a bold revolution, where total transformations reset the narrative. JAGUAR NEEDED A REVOLUTION, and for good reason. For years, Jaguar has struggled with declining sales and fading relevance. The traditional strategy of targeting elite, older consumers simply wasn’t working anymore. The brand needed more than a refresh — it needed resurrection.
Nonlinear techniques for few-mode wavefront sensors
We present several nonlinear wavefront sensing techniques for few-mode sensors, all of which are empirically calibrated and agnostic to the choice of wavefront sensor. The first class of techniques involves a straightforward extension of the linear phase retrieval scheme to higher order; the resulting Taylor polynomial can then be solved using the method of successive approximations, though we discuss alternate methods such as homotopy continuation.

Paris 2024 Olympics Pictograms: Breaking Tradition or Losing Functionality?
As a designer, I’ve always believed that good design strikes a balance between form and function. It’s about creating something that’s not just visually appealing but also effective in solving a problem. That’s why the new Paris 2024 Olympic pictograms, or “coats of arms,” leave me with mixed feelings. On one hand, they’re a bold reimagining of what Olympic symbols can be. On the other, they seem to lose sight of the practical functionality that has made past Olympic pictograms so effective.

Power to the people: Labour Day Rally 2023
The Labour Day Rally 2023, the first to be organised by advocacy group Workers Make Possible (WMP), was unique for a few reasons. It was not fronted by any political party but was a genuine ground-up, activist-driven event. It championed the rights of all workers, regardless of nationality (some previous events involved worrying xenophobia amid calls for job protection).
Amazing homes built around Mother Nature
The owner, Angelo Mastropietro, is said to have spent just £179,000 ($240k) on the amazing conversion project. In Italian, Mastropietro means "Master of Stone", Angelo told the BBC in 2015. "It must be in my blood. Well, it's certainly in my lungs now," he joked. Inside, the home features a kitchen, living area, king-size bedroom, bathroom, and dressing room. The natural cave aesthetic continues inside, albeit in a more refined way.
I object: mental illness is not a crime
Proposed amendments to the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008 and the Police Force Act 2004 are about to be codified and legitimised in Parliament, next week. These will afford the police, amongst other things, enhanced powers to apprehend persons suspected of a mental illness before they commit a potentially harmful act, either to themselves or others. These amendments are well-meaning.
Retinal detachment - Nature Reviews Disease Primers
Abstract Retinal detachment (RD) occurs when the neurosensory retina, the neurovascular tissue responsible for phototransduction, is separated from the underlying retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). Given the importance of the RPE for optimal retinal function, RD invariably leads to decreased vision. There are three main types of RD: rhegmatogenous, tractional and exudative (also termed serous) RD.
Splice’s guide to your media future

Last November, I was there to meet Sonny Swe, the co-founder of Frontier Myanmar, a news and business magazine whose strident independence since 2015 has won it the adoration of fans and the ire of the junta.

Boys will be boys? Masculinity in Singapore’s National Service
National servicemen can expect to face violence not only from their enemies, but sometimes their comrades too. In May 2018, Kok Yuen Chin, a 22-year-old corporal with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, was celebrating his imminent “operationally ready date (ORD)”. As part of the festivities, his fellow servicemen had chucked him into a 12m-deep pump well at their fire station. After more than 30 mins in the water, during which his colleagues had tried to save him, Kok drowned.
Popular Antiobesity Medications Bring New Challenges to Emergency Physicians

Your first patient, Patient A, is a 38-year-old female with a distant history of anorexia nervosa, presenting with persistent, diffuse, abdominal pain, nausea, intractable vomiting, inability to tolerate oral intake, and fatigue for four days. She experienced a syncopal episode at work today. Her vital signs are within normal limits.
#78:The great HDB conundrum
Dear reader, Jom’s essay of the week: “Affordability in the lion city: is Singapore’s public housing model built to last?” by Jonathan Lin, is a clear, crisp explanation of the great HDB conundrum. Read this now so you’re well informed before chatting with your aunties, uncles, and cousins about housing this weekend. A huge shout-out to Anngee Neo too, for her incredible accompanying illustrations, which capture the dilemma so poignantly.
Affordability in the lion city: is Singapore’s public housing model built to last?
Singapore’s public housing model is often heralded as a massive success. Over 80 percent of the resident population lives in a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat, of which about 90 percent own them. These high rates of public housing ownership are quite rare, globally, earning HDB plaudits while its work has been turned into case studies at top universities around the world. “Lessons from the best public housing program in the world”, headlined an article from The World Bank in 2018.

An Open‐Source, Physics‐Based, Tropical Cyclone Downscaling Model With Intensity‐Dependent Steering
1 Introduction Tropical cyclones (TCs) are extreme weather systems that are responsible for billions of dollars in damage to society every year (Pielke et al., 2008). As global warming continues, the consensus is that the frequency of intense TCs will increase (Knutson et al., 2010; Kossin et al., 2020). It follows that wind damage and precipitation will also increase with global warming (Emanuel, 2011; Knutson et al., 2020).
Will Events Like Hurricane Otis Become More Common? Original
Will Events Like Hurricane Otis Become More Common? Hurricanes can sometimes undergo rapid intensification, which by definition is an intensification of 35 knots, or 40 miles per hour, in a 24-hour window. To give a sense of how fast this intensification is, 35 knots is the difference between a Category 1 hurricane and a Category 3 hurricane.
Will Events Like Hurricane Otis Become More Common?
Hurricanes are powerful storms that bring about destructive winds, rain, and storm surges. The strength of hurricanes is typically defined through their intensity, or the sustained maximum wind speeds. In general, hurricanes gradually intensify and then decay, though their intensity can fluctuate through their lifetime due to various factors.
