North Carolina, Virginia under tropical storm watches/warnings through Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas  (KIAH) — Hurricane Erin is brining tropical storm force winds, flooding rains and damaging storm surge to portions of the U.S. East Coast. The latest from the National Hurricane Center has Erin as a very large category two hurricane. Winds of 110mph extend out 90 miles from the center of the storm, and tropical storm-force winds reach out to 265mph.

Severe storms, flooding possible Wednesday afternoon across SE Texas

HOUSTON, Texas  (KIAH) — Strong storms, some of which could become severe and bring damaging winds, are expected to develop across Southeast Texas later this afternoon, just in time for your afternoon commute. It’s been a dry Wednesday morning in Houston, but come early afternoon storms will start to fire-up around the area. Between about 1pm-7pm, forecast models show strong storms forming along the I-10 corridor, south to the coastline.

The Atlantic Is Heating Up, Next Tropical System Is Forming

HOUSTON, Texas  (KIAH) — The tropics are brewing up the next tropical system in the Atlantic. A disturbance is moving west through the Atlantic and will likely become Tropical Storm Erin within the next day. Computer models would have Erin move west through the Atlantic and ride up the western periphery of an Atlantic ridge of high pressure, bringing it to the north close to Bermuda by week’s end, but we’re still a ways off.
