Walta inspires Finland to take top spot with narrow victory over 10-man Albania
The two leading sides in Group C1 both came into the clash unbeaten after their first two matches, but a goalless draw at home to Belarus in their previous outing was an early setback for Finland, while Albania had won two from two. And it was the in-form Albania who came flying out of the blocks, breaking the deadlock inside four minutes.

The hosts came into this clash on the back of a dramatic comeback victory over Celta Vigo, against whom they scored three times in the final 30 minutes to win 4-3.
Data-Based Modelling for Quantifying Carbon Dioxide Emissions Reduction Potential by Using Heat Pumps
1. Introduction Space and domestic water heating demand represented half of all energy consumption in buildings and led to direct and indirect carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of 4100 million tonnes in the year 2022 [1]. In the United Kingdom (UK), approximately 14% of carbon emissions stem from domestic heating [2], predominantly due to the reliance on natural gas boilers, which heat 80% of UK homes [3].
France reach Nations League quarter-finals with goalless draw against Israel
Despite being held to a goalless draw by rock-bottom Israel in UEFA Nations League A Group 2 in Paris, France secured their place in the quarter-finals of the competition. Even a draw would have been enough for France to qualify for the last eight, but three points would have still been on their minds considering they were coming up against an Israel side that had lost all four of their matches in this campaign so far.

Youthful Chelsea ease to win over Gent in Conference League
Chelsea have now lost just one of their last 15 home games in all competitions after kicking off their maiden UEFA Conference League (UECL) campaign with a 4-2 victory over KAA Gent at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are used to the glamour of the UEFA Champions League but, following a year in the European wilderness last term, a return to any form of European competition is welcome.

Giant-killers Girona secure famous first win over Barcelona to go top in LaLiga
Girona picked up a maiden LaLiga victory against Barcelona to return to the top of the table as they prevailed 4-2 at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. The hosts enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening stages, but it was instead Girona who struck first, with Viktor Tsyhankov taking advantage of the Blaugrana’s incredibly high line to pounce onto Yan Couto’s through ball and play in Ukrainian compatriot Artem Dovbyk, who tapped in via the post.
Here we go again - Unified Patent Court back on track
The German Constitutional Court issued a landmark decision with implications for many companies doing business in Europe on July 9, 2021. For decades, the European Commission and EU member states strived to create a pan-European Unified Patent Court (UPC). After overcoming many hurdles, any sensible commentator will be cautious in making statements about the future of the UPC.
Energy storage technology is accelerating – but grids aren't ready for the transition | Red, Green, and Blue
Thanks in part to the pandemic-induced economic slowdown and the collapse of coal and triumph of wind power over the last decade, a new analysis suggests the UK is halfway to meeting its net zero greenhouse gas emissions target. The ultimate goal of a fully renewable grid will depend on technology that can store clean electricity from wind farms for hours and days.

Since I began writing about energy storage in 2013, falling costs have prompted a surge in batteries being installed around the world.
UK Supreme Court hands down another FRAND decision
FRAND issues are at the heart of the most significant patent cases in Europe (in the UK, Germany and France – please see our previous alert here). After the Nokia vs Daimler decision last week by the Mannheim Court, and decision handed down in Sisvel v. Haier earlier in May by the German Supreme Court, the UK Supreme Court has issued its much awaited decision in Unwired Planet v. Huawei on Wednesday, September 26.
German Constitutional Court Rules Germany’s Ratification of the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court is Void
Global life sciences companies have been carefully watching the European effort to launch a United Patent Court (UPC). As we discussed in a previous post, the UPC would have a profound effect on how life sciences companies set about their patent strategies – from filing through exploitation to enforcement. Efforts to implement the UPC, however, have ended up facing considerable challenges.
Final blow to the UPC project? German law ratifying UPCA is void
European countries have pursued the project of creating a Unitary Patent and a Unified Patent Court (UPC), since the early seventies. Success seemed within reach in 2013 when the international Agreement on a Unified Patent Court (UPCA) was concluded and subsequently ratified by several states. However, in 2017 the project came to a grinding halt in the biggest contracting state, Germany, when a single patent practitioner filed a complaint against the national law ratifying the UPCA.

Anthill 4: Fuel
It’s not just cars and aeroplanes that need to take on fuel: our bodies and brains do too. So think of your summer holidays as a pit stop in your frantic year – a time to recharge the batteries. It’s fuel – the stuff that makes both us and the world go round – that we’re focusing on in this fourth episode of The Anthill, a podcast from The Conversation UK. It’s clear that some of us need to take on more fuel than others – especially those with dreams of being an Olympic champion.
