NFL Rumors: San Francisco 49ers Releasing Colin Kaepernick Next Week

inquisitr.com — Football NFL rumors have been swirling around Colin Kaepernick. We are less than a week away from when the San Francisco 49ers have to make a big decision on what they want to do with their quarterback position. Kaepernick is still interested in finding a new home in the National Football League, so that he can resurrect his once promising career. According to NBC Sports, Kaepernick is guaranteed $11.9 million by next Friday if the team does not remove the former second round pick from their roster. Last season, Colin Kaepernick was benched by San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula.

Robert Griffin III signs with the Cleveland Browns

Robert Griffin III signs with the Cleveland Browns

Yahoo — Had you told any Cleveland Browns fan at the end of the 2012 regular season that Robert Griffin III would be their quarterback in 2016, they'd have thought their terrible quarterback woes were finally over. Well, maybe. The Browns announced Thursday that Griffin signed a contract with the team. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said it's a two-year deal. USA Today's Tom Pelissero said it's a two-year, $15 million deal with $6.75 million guaranteed, with the ability to max out at $22 million if he hits incentives. "I'm excited about the opportunity to join the Dawg Pound and help build something here in Cleveland," Griffin told the Browns' website.

Can Packers offense return to dominance?

nfl.com — The 2015 Packers posted their lowest points per game, yards per game, yards per play and third-down percentage of the Aaron Rodgers era. Although Rodgers was saddled with the slowest collection of wide receivers and tight ends in football, per Next Gen Stats, coach Mike McCarthy repeatedly insisted the offense's woes were not a one-position issue. Outside of a calamitous injury to Rodgers, everything that could go wrong did. Jordy Nelson, one of the NFL's top half-dozen receivers and a player boasting a mind meld with Rodgers, was lost for the season with an ACL injury.

8 Cleveland Browns players to watch as offseason program begins

North Ridgeville OH — CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns will open up their offseason activities next week at the team's facility in Berea. Offseason workouts begin on April 4 and the team's veteran minicamp will run from April 19-21. This will, of course, be new head coach Hue Jackson's first opportunity to work with members of his new team. We won't get too much of a read on things -- any practicing we do get to see will be touch football at best -- but there will be some opportunities to get a look at Jackson's offense. Here are some players I'm most intrigued by this offseason.

Christian Hackenberg is the 2016 NFL Draft's love-him-or-hate-him QB

SB Nation — This year, it's the Penn State quarterback who finds himself caught in the crosshairs. Every year, the NFL Draft media turns at least one quarterback into a controversial, love-him-or-hate-him figure. Last year, it was No. 1 pick Jameis Winston, who was investigated for sexual assault during his time at Florida State but never charged. Winston also had been cited for shoplifting crab legs from a grocery store. The year before, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater polarized scouts and fans, one for his pattern of self-destructive behavior and the other for concerns as mundane as thin knees.

Can the Cleveland Browns count on Joe Haden in 2016?

North Ridgeville OH — CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden announced his wife was pregnant last week on Instagram. Along with expecting a son, Haden is expecting to bounce back after a tough 2015 season. New Browns head coach Hue Jackson spoke highly of Haden's work ethic during a press conference last week and said he expects him to get back to being one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Can the Browns realistically count on Haden in 2016 coming off surgery? Michael Reghi, Chris Fedor and Bud Shaw weighed in on Haden as part of our weekly series of videos.

Potential landing spots for free agent Josh Norman

Potential landing spots for free agent Josh Norman

nfl.com — The Carolina Panthers' decision to rescind Josh Norman's franchise tag is one of the most stunning NFL developments we've seen in a long time. With no warning, one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL is freely available one week before the NFL draft. If Norman was on the market when free agency started in March, he easily would have been the No. 1 overall player on our board. The Panthers wanted to avoid a potential distraction with Norman, so they set him free. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Norman was seeking a contract in the neighborhood of Darrelle Revis' deal that pays him $16 million per year.

SB Nation — Welcome to The Crootletter (sign up to get this in your inbox every morning!). I'm Bud Elliott, SB Nation's National Recruiting Analyst, and in this space I'll be sharing news, rumors and musings on the world of college football recruiting. There's tough news for shorter wide receivers chasing their football dreams: NFL teams are not willing to invest high draft picks in them. In this year's NFL Draft, teams picked a total of 30 wide receivers. Just six were listed by the NFL as shorter than 6'0, and just three of those went in the first five rounds: Baylor's Corey Coleman (15th overall to Cleveland), Oklahoma's Sterling Shepard (40th overall to the Giants) and South Carolina's Pharoh Cooper (117th overall to Los Angeles).

Andrew Luck plummets in 'Top 100' NFL player rankings

nfl.com — "The Top 100 Players of 2016" kicked off Wednesday on NFL Network with the unveiling of Nos. 91 through 100. Are there 91 better players than Andrew Luck? No way, but that's where the Colts quarterback plopped down in the first installment of "The Top 100 Players of 2016." Tumbling an outrageous 85 spots from last year, Luck -- at No. 92 -- paid the price for an up-and-down campaign that saw him miss nine starts due to a subluxed shoulder and lacerated kidney that ultimately ended his season. Before the injuries, Luck failed to throw the ball with the same authority we saw in previous years.

blogspot.com — The Cleveland Browns is a storied franchise in American football. Just like all storied franchises in any sport, the Browns were built on the backs of hardworking staff and crew, eccentric and hard-nosed coaches and general managers, and of course, talented and heroic players. Here are the five greatest players in Cleveland Browns history. Ozzie Newsome Newsome was a tight-end for 13 years with the Browns. He was part of the famed "Kardiac Kids" that dazzled fans in the '80s. The quality that makes him a cut above the rest is his loyalty. He never changed teams in his career, staying a Brown until the end.

What we learned from the Browns' rookie minicamp

clevelandbrowns.com — On an unseasonably cold and windy weekend, the Browns concluded their rookie minicamp Sunday, marking the end of a three-day grind in which Cleveland's coaching staff got its first look at the team's newcomers. And they didn't disappoint. "The bottom line is you never know anything until you get them. These guys have really been eager to learn. They'll work. They take constructive criticism well. They don't run from it," head coach Hue Jackson said Saturday following Day 2 of camp at FirstEnergy Stadium. "They understand that there are things that they need to improve on.

Jets owner considered Mike Holmgren for head coach

nfl.com — Former Packers and Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren announced his retirement in January of 2015 after learning that the 49ers did not reciprocate his interest in returning to the sidelines in San Francisco. Like many coaches who were retired by the league in their final stops, though, Holmgren isn't resistant to the charms of being courted by NFL owners. New York Jets owner Woody Johnson revealed to Newsday's Bob Glauber this week that Holmgren was one of a half-dozen candidates considered for the head coaching vacancy before Todd Bowles was hired to replace Rex Ryan.

Cleveland Browns' Duke Johnson poised for a breakout year under coach Hue Jackson

CLEVELAND.COM — BEREA, Ohio -- Duke Johnson walked into the Browns' media center last week toting a backpack and resembling a typical college student between classes. It was an appropriate look given the player and circumstance. The education of the University of Miami product is ongoing and not only on the football field. While the Browns' running back will have earned his first million dollars by the end of his second NFL year, he's already planning for the future. He spent his off-season going back to school in pursuit of a degree in sports administration, and will enroll in more classes next month ahead of training camp.

Terrelle Pryor Has Found Perfect Situation to Succeed as an NFL Wideout

Bleacher Report — Pryor is still trying to make it in the NFL. After several years of trying to accomplish the goal as a quarterback, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star is now giving it a go as a wide receiver. He may have found the perfect opportunity this offseason to do exactly that. Pryor first entered the league back in 2011 in the supplemental draft. The Oakland Raiders took the 6'4" quarterback prospect in the third round and developed him over the next few seasons as a possible quarterback of the future. Though he failed to become a franchise signal-caller in Oakland, Pryor got his opportunities.

Most legendary quarterbacks don't get a storybook ending to their NFL careers

Most legendary quarterbacks don't get a storybook ending to their NFL careers

SB Nation — Hall of Fame quarterbacks like Dan Fouts, Dan Marino and Johnny Unitas had forgettable ends to their memorable careers. When Dan Fouts walked off the field following a 20-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in December 1987, no one knew that he suffered a shoulder injury during the game that would end his year, and ultimately, his career. Instead, the San Diego Chargers legend played through the pain, as was the case for much of his career. He finished the day with three interceptions and no touchdowns in a game that was the fifth consecutive loss for a team that was 8-1 one month earlier.

10 NFL sophomores primed to break out

10 NFL sophomores primed to break out

ESPN — The first rule of putting together a list of breakout candidates is recognizing that no player can break out twice. Once you've made a name for yourself on the NFL landscape, you can't do it again the next year. That's why this list of second-year NFL players who we anticipate will emerge this fall won't include any of the top rookies of 2015. That means no offensive stars like Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Amari Cooper or Todd Gurley. It also means no Marcus Peters, who won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award, or Leonard Williams, the Jets' latest front-seven phenom.

New-look Browns OL starting to take 'its shape and form'

clevelandbrowns.com — The Browns' new-look offensive line is still taking shape, but the coaching staff has been pleased - and then some - with the progress the group has made through the course of offseason workouts. "They've gotten better. They really have. They're battling," said head coach Hue Jackson, who met with reporters Thursday as the team concluded its mandatory veteran minicamp, marking the end of offseason workouts. " is the leader of that group, and he's done a great job. I told them in front of him, we're going to get on his back and we're going to ride it.
