The cost of constructing a data centre in the UK could continue to rise by up to 6.8% if oil prices remain elevated, according to new research from Currie & Brown. The latest analysis comes after an agreement was signed between the US and Iran, with the expectation that there will continue to be volatility in prices even if the deal eases immediate concerns over energy supplies.

Equinix trials hydrogen backup power at Dublin data centre

Equinix has begun a 12-week trial of hydrogen-powered backup generation at its DB3 data centre in Blanchardstown, Dublin. The project, delivered in partnership with ESB and GeoPura, will see two hydrogen-powered generators used to support cooling systems at the facility. According to Equinix, the pilot has already helped bring the site’s power usage effectiveness (PUE) to below 1.3. That’s an important milestone for Equinix, especially in Dublin.

Ofgem is considering whether data centres could face mandatory curtailment during periods of system stress. The proposal comes amid growing concern that rising demand from AI and cloud computing could place further pressure on Britain’s already constrained grid. It also forms part of the regulator’s wider demand connections reform work, which is designed to speed up access to grid capacity for viable projects, while clearing out speculative schemes and maintaining security of supply.

I read my emails pretty much 24/7 - so if it's an email pitch, anytime of day. Phone calls I typically would prefer early afternoon (~3)
