Joseph Barnes

Joseph William Barnes Jr., 85, of Highland, IL, born Sunday, October 22, 1939, in Los Angeles, CA, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Joe graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1958. There, he was a proud member of the golf and diving teams, as well as the Sports Car Club, Golf Club, Letterman, and Prom Committee.

Abstract In Fall 2020, universities saw extensive transmission of SARS-CoV-2 among their populations, threatening health of the university and surrounding communities, and viability of in-person instruction. Here we report a case study at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where a multimodal “SHIELD: Target, Test, and Tell” program, with other non-pharmaceutical interventions, was employed to keep classrooms and laboratories open.

One of the few men who can claim to have called the turn on the gyrations of Communist foreign policy over the last decade is Dr. Eduard Beneš, President of the Czechoslovak Republic. In his memoirs, recently published in Prague, he has carefully and reasonably explained his belief in the spring of 1939 that the Russians would buy time from Hitler if an agreement with Great Britain and France should prove impossible, but would eventually be drawn into the war against Germany.
