Having allowed an unfortunate tying run in the top of the seventh after a leadoff error eventually allowed the game-tying run to come around and score, Gerhardt pitched around a two-out baserunner in the eighth and a leadoff single in the ninth to reach the tenth. That's when the California rule, aka MLB's extra-innings rule of putting a runner on second to speed games up, came into play, and Gerhardt took the mound in the 10th trying to keep that runner from scoring.

Bismarck Govs split doubleheader with Post 2

As for the Govs, they hung a three spot on the board in the bottom of the first of game two, then sent 11 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the second while scoring six more runs. "The fact we kept putting pressure on, we didn't get the big hit, which is kinda baseball, but as long as you're doing that, I like our chances long-term," Skytland said. "Very tight zone but kudos to the umps, they did well, both sides it was even," Rakowski said.
